    AC87 5GHz + iOS9 weird behaviour

Just to say, I agree there is something very bad about iPad Air 2 and IOS9 with 5Ghz on the ac87u. Tried 378.55 and 378.54_2. Definitely the Air 2 alone (not iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPad 2, iPad Mini 2) disconnects in sleep mode and then reconnects. Roughly it connects for 40 secs, then...

    5Ghz goes down

Don't worry, I'll limp along as is until the next beta I think. Kinda tempted to try Merlin 54_2, as ASUSWRT .4950 was just about rock solid for me. But not sure I can be bothered! I'm pretty sure IOS9 has made things a lot worse. I was very happy with 378.55 until a week ago. But my AP seemed...

    5Ghz goes down

Yeah, I knew that but thought it didn't affect iDevices. Am I wrong?

    5Ghz goes down

I've updated the iPad to 9.0.1. Still it disconnects from 5Ghz. Just had another 5Ghz lockup on the router with BOOTP message flood. This time I rebooted the AP, not the router. Interestingly the BOOTP messages stopped, suggesting they are coming from the APs Quantenna chip. But the 5Ghz...

    5Ghz goes down

The router, as you see in my last post, only seems to report the loss of one network when the AP is rebooted. So it seems the ac87AP's Quantenna is "behind" the main Broadcom AP from the router's standpoint, but it still sees those BOOTP messages, which it doesn't report from it's own Quantenna...

    5Ghz goes down

....As I understand it the Quantenna effectively sits like an AP on the network, routing though the main "router" part of the ac87. Not sure how this works when you also have an ac87 AP? I think from the single "kernel: br0: port 1(vlan1) neighbor 8000.38:2c:4a:ab:51:58 lost" message I see when...

    5Ghz goes down

Same SSID. But the more I think about it the more we need to wait for new firmware from Asus/Quantenna to fix the iDevice disconnection/multiple DHCP requests. I'm not convinced that has anything to do with the 5Ghz crashes that are the subject of this thread. For the OP I think we may have to...

    5Ghz goes down

Nah! Another red herring! As others have observed if it settles on 2.4Ghz it will stay connected, but if it is on 5Ghz it keeps re-requesting an IP and that's because it keeps dropping off the network Sado that I am, I have been sitting watching what is happening with the Merlin Wireless...

    5Ghz goes down

Interesting I have discovered that I always get 2 of these BootP messages in the log when I restart my ac87u AP. So, it's possible that none of them are coming from the router, but instead from my AP, or both the AP and the Router can generate them?? No doubt however, that when they appear...

    5Ghz goes down

I think a background app may be responsible for this DHCP problem. I methodically went through and closed all apps on my iPad and the requests stopped. Note: even restarting the iPad leaves the same long list of open apps Of course, it's quite possible this is completely unrelated to the...

    5Ghz goes down

Statically assigning the address has not worked for me. Still requests an IP every 3-4 mins. Very odd. I changed the IP to 192.168.0.7, in case the every high IP was a problem, but no change.

    5Ghz goes down

My iPad already had a unique name. It doesn't have a static address, but then neither do the other devices that are not similarly affected. I did say that other iDevices occasionally request multiple times but for the iPad Air 2 it is crazy. Even after resetting network settings the iPad was...

    5Ghz goes down

The thing is this is all running Merlin, which is based off the 6xxx series of Asus builds. Asus are testing 8xxx now. So they are not going to be interested in anything here. I have no idea at this point if this could be a Merlin bug. My guess is not, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure it...

    5Ghz goes down

I'm also getting frequent disconnections when sleeping on 5Ghz following IOS9 update (probably related), sigh! Hopefully they will fix with the planned October stable release. But who's to say we won't all be in trouble again when IOS10 arrives. Infuriating!

    5Ghz goes down

To be clear, there's no real problem observed here with the IPad, until 5Ghz falls over on the ac87 of course. It's just curious seeing continual DHCP activity. Here there is now only about 3mins typically between DHCP requests - all the iDevices making requests, my iPad Air 2 the worse...

    5Ghz goes down

I'm talking about burst of attempts. With the iPhones maybe 3 or 4 together several times a day. With the iPad, sometimes it goes on and on and on....

    5Ghz goes down

It's happened again this morning. Endless stream of BOOTP requests and 5Ghz network has gone down. Sep 22 06:02:02 dnsmasq-dhcp[683]: BOOTP(br0) 00:26:86:00:00:00 no address configured Sep 22 06:02:02 dnsmasq-dhcp[683]: BOOTP(br0) 00:26:86:00:00:00 no address configured Sep 22 06:02:10...

Less so on our iPhones, but still I see a few multiple entries. Maybe that's normal?

    [Beta] RT-AC3200_3.0.0.4_378_8868

The problem is there is no flow control on these emails. Admittedly with much earlier firmware (4950) I had to turn off all notifications because the same IP address was probing me every couple of minutes. GMail eventually (temporarily) blocked my account from sending mail, assuming it was a bot.

    5Ghz goes down

I am seeing the same thing with all my iDevices. Sometimes I just see a burst of them and then it goes quiet. Sometimes they go on and on for hours. I'll be honest, I could not remember if this was "normal" or a new IOS9 thing. It's definitely strange. (my iPads don't have cellular data...
