    update AC87U

No, you don't need to do 4950 then 5134. 5134 includes all changes in 4950. This thread gives info on doing a reset: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/

    update AC87U

5134 is now fully released. I haven't bothered to upgrade to it, as it offers very little over 4950, but there have been no bad reports so I'd say it's good. 4950, and so 5134 too, has major improvements over 4608, so if on 4608 I'd say go for it - but do a full hard reset before and after...

    AC87U disconnection on 2.4ghz.

You realise that " 5Ghz" wifi starts in most of the world at 5180Mhz and goes up to 5825Mhz. If you are using an 80Mhz band @CH149 that goes from 5745 right up beyond 5800. The part of the "5Ghz" spectrum that starts at CH149 is actually called the "5.8 ISM Band". So, I've no idea if your phone...

    2,4Ghz Problem with AC87U

I believe your issue is different. Zion's problem is that 2.4Ghz devices stay connected to wifi, but become unable to access the WAN (Internet). Your issue is disconnection of devices from wifi (I think! Please correct me if I am wrong).

    2,4Ghz Problem with AC87U

I'd try this test from a PC affected by this problem: http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ It's interesting you can ping out. Sounds like some protocol or other is getting blocked, DNS being the most obvious.

    Noob question about QoS

Where were you 4 days ago! :). Seriously, thanks for confirming. It's always good to have the same answer from two sources! I actually think it's good the default is low, not lowest. Means you can mark a low priority device without having to assign manually priorities to everything else. But it...

How to reset nvram on asus rt87u ? please help

Unless you can guarantee 102% I'm not risking it.

    Noob question about QoS

I got a reply from the Asus rep in Singapore who posts all our betas: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/93331688-post3091.html Unassigned=LOW I double-checked and it's definitely low, not lowest.

    Noob question about QoS

Yeah, I'm not so sure. If I assigned something "lowest" and all else was unassigned I'd expect that device to be bottom. As soon as you have "unassigned", rather than default assign to one of the categories, it makes it hard to guess.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.52 is available

Thought this might be interesting regarding Tor support: http://arstechnica.com/security/2015/04/op-ed-why-the-entire-premise-of-tor-enabled-routers-is-ridiculous/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pulsenews Beware!

    RT-AC87R - 5G bandwidth for Apple devices

By the way, it's a small thing but, some network tools (I use Net Analyzer Lite) can display your current BSSID. While it doesn't give you any more control you can roam around and see instantly when your iPhone/iPad switches radios. It's even more useful if, like me, you have APs as well as the...

    Noob question about QoS

Still begs the question: What priority does an unassigned device have? Lowest? Less than lowest? Medium? Other?

    Amazing!

Firmware for the Asus RT AC87U

Btw, in answer to your first question 378.4950 (the latest firmware) has been very positively received. You need to follow the instructions to RESET your router before upgrading though, even if you haven't set it up yet. Resetting forces the router to upload the new defaults (some hidden) for...

Firmware for the Asus RT AC87U

From memory, both are "admin". Remember to change ASAP,

    Noob question about QoS

So, For a particular purpose I set a priority for one of the iPads on my network using the drag and drop coloured tabs in the Adaptive QoS - WAN/LAN Bandwidth Monitor screen. I now have absolutely no idea how to undo this! I can change a device to a different colour, but there is no obvious way...

    RT-AC87R - 5G bandwidth for Apple devices

I'll have a look tomorrow. on my router and AP. I've never really paid any attention to the lights. As the 5Ghz radio uses a totally different chipset to the 2.4Ghz radio it is quite possible the LED behaviour is different. I have heard just one other report of problems like that on 5Ghz with...

    RT-AC87R - 5G bandwidth for Apple devices

Yep, that's all fair enough. It's certainly easier to control stuff with seperate SSIDs, I have to say I was starting to think I'd need to do the same when an Intel 7260 Windows laptop kept picking 2.4Ghz over 5Ghz. But then I found "prefer 5Ghz" in it's advanced settings and it's very happy...

    RT-AC87R - 5G bandwidth for Apple devices

Once everything is roaming properly you don't need to know what band you're on, day to day. You just know your devices are doing sensible things. The big thing about using the same SSID is that the device knows it is connecting to the same network. It can keep an AirPlay session going, for...

    RT-AC87R - 5G bandwidth for Apple devices

By the way, are you using the same SSID for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Unless you really want to segregate the two, I'd suggest you do. It will make it easier for things to roam sensibly and effectively. For instance, if your iPhone is currently sticking on 2.4Ghz it might roam back to 5Ghz quicker; worth...
