    Netgear Firmware Update for X4S R7800 (1.0.2.44)

The default in AP mode is to use DHCP and get the address from your main router. For now I reverted to .38 and updated in place to .44, without resetting to defaults afterwards. That keeps my manually-entered IP address.

[Official Release] AiMesh Firmware v3.0.0.4.384.20308 for All Supported Products

I know this is probably posted somewhere, but sorry I couldn't find it. I have a standalone 68P running 382 (pre Mesh) firmware. Are all newer (384) firmwares mesh-capable? There aren't two streams of firmwares - one mesh and one not-mesh? If I install 384 is there an option to turn mesh on...

    Netgear Firmware Update for X4S R7800 (1.0.2.44)

Using a manually assigned IP address in AP mode with firmware 1.0.2.40 or 1.0.2.44 does not work if AP mode is setup up after a reset to factory defaults first. You can't access the R7800 by that assigned address. This does work with 1.0.2.38. And I believe will work if you update to 1.02.4x...

Any 3rd-Party Firmware Really Worth Installing on R7000?

Just be aware that the Vortex port of Asuswrit-Merlin is not open source and is hosted on a Russian server. That might mean something or nothing at all.

    RT-AC86U hit the FCC

Does this router support DFS channels in the U.S.? I don't see the word 'DFS' mentioned at all in the manual.

    DFS and R7800 in USA

Given that ISP gateways, here in Toronto at least, are defaulting 5GHz to 80MHz wide channels, DFS is going to be the first choice for many people. My ISP is now providing DFS channel choices on their gateways.

    DFS and R7800 in USA

Is anybody successfully using DFS in the USA? My son has a DG2470 with RCN in Chicago. The WIFI on that 3-in-1 router is horrible and I will be giving him a spare R7800 to use as a Wireless AP. The 5GHz channels are heavily used around him in the low (UNII-1) and high (UNII-3) ranges. There...

R7800 - why no Auto option for 5Ghz channel ?

Out of curiousity, why is there no option to choose Auto for the 5GHz wireless channel, the way you can for 2.4GHz, on an R7800? Don't other routers allow this?

    Custom firmware build for R7800 v. 1.0.2.25SF & v. 1.0.2.29SF

Does your firmware address the UPNP Vulnerability described at https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7800-UPNP-vulnerability-CVE-2013-0230/td-p/1230658 ?

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.4164

The Ookla stuff is happening for me as well on a 68P with official 380.3831. Some sites take a while to start and have much slower results than they used to.

    R7800 New Firmware 1.0.2.12

Has anybody tried DFS channels yet on the new firmware? I wonder if they operate at the same power level? Also RogerSC, do you have the R7800 and Orbi? If so, can you make a general comparison between them please. I realize the Orbi is a combination of a router and satellite, and the R7800...

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

I suspect this is where the Portal and R7800, which now support DFS 5GHz channels, will come in very handy.

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

    From the new R7800 1.0.2.12 firmware annoucement yesterday: Added WiFi 5G band support for FCC DFS channels 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140. Hopefully Netgear will incorporate this into other new routers.

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

What if the lower 5Ghz channel that is available for clients to use (the backhaul uses an upper 5GHz channel) is already heavily used by a neighbour? At least if the backhaul used a proprietary communications, you'd have some choice in channels for the user.

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

What channel does the 5GHz backhaul use? Do you have control over the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz channels and SSIDs, on the main unit and satellite? Basically, can you turn off an auto-connect type configuration?

2017 ASUS ROUTER WIFI AP models ?

Is Broadcom going away? I know there were rumours in March. Does this signify a total shift to Qualcomm for wifi chipsets?

    Netgear Nighthawk 4xs r7800ac2600

RogerSC, I've noticed in various posts that you have tried many differrent firmwares on your R7000. I've only used stock. I just want to make 100% sure that if I install Vortex's XWRT on it that I can go back to full native stock firmware afterwards by applying R7000-V1.0.3.80_1.1.38.trx...

    Netgear Nighthawk 4xs r7800ac2600

Out of curiousity, have you tried any of the AC3150 routers in comparison to the R7800? Or another AC2600 router? I had the R7800 and liked it but gave it to my son. It worked well in the lower 5GHz channels, which aren't as widely used. Since then I'm testing out a TP-Link C3150 which is...

    TP-Link C2600/C3150/AC5400 Or Linksys AC5400 or Asus RT-AC3100

sfx2000, one thing I now realize after playing around a bit with 5 GHz is that if your neighbour sets up his router that defaults to 80 MHz wide channels on 5GHz, he's going to overlap you on the higher channels (149 for example) regardless of what channel you pick up there. For that reason...

AC2600 (QCA) vs AC3150 (Broadcom) if don't care about MU-MIMO

If you don't care about MU-MIMO and are purchasing a new wireless router today, would you say the AC2600's like the X4S or Archer C2600 are equivalent to the AC3150's like the RT-AC3100 or Archer C3150 in terms of performance and compatibility? For example, are Broadcom-based routers more...
