New RT-AX88U - No WAN 4 Days Later

I buy 2 routers for every one I need and return one after I get set up. That way if I get a defective one - currently about 25% - I’m still in business. I also keep an older router on hand as a spare.

    Wireless Printing

Did you allow access through the laptop's firewall? If you’re on Windoze delete and reinstall the printer. I had to do that several times to get things connected. Epson printers need to be connected to both bands if you have dual band WiFi. At least mine did.

    AIMesh vs Repeater mode

How does one do that? I haven’t seen that as a configuration option.

How to improve WiFi Range of AC86U router

Regarding antennas: unsolicited plug for https://www.data-alliance.net/ Everything I've purchased there works great.

    uiDivStats no data

Noob here. Error report. uiDivStats stopped logging overnight. Ran a disk check on the USB card (passed). Toggled Diversion on/off (no effect on stats). Finally uninstalled and reinstalled uiDivStats and it’s working again. Old stats are still there, with a day-long gap until the reload. System...

How to improve WiFi Range of AC86U router

With standard antennas my 150' apart routers barely connected and frequently dropped. With 9 dbi aftermarket antennas on both routers (a whopping $15 for 3) the network runs at 2.4 gHz in repeater mode. I ran this setup reliably for years until nearby development (multiple McMansions) on...

How to improve WiFi Range of AC86U router

Beyond router placement and antenna direction, high-gain antennas work.

    AiMesh network crashing/dropout

The final trick for stability in my long distance (150’ building to building) mesh was disabling roaming assistant. It almost seems like the roaming assistant was applying to the mesh node and if the connection hiccuped the node was disconnected.

    RT-AC66U B1 - LAN interface acts strangely

TP Link > WiFi WAN port / WiFi LAN port > switch

    RT-AC66U B1 - LAN interface acts strangely

That won’t work because you say it won’t work or because you tried it and it didn’t work? Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but the WiFi router has input (WAN) and output (LAN). If multiport the LAN also functions as a switch.

    RT-AC66U B1 - LAN interface acts strangely

At the bottom of your diagram go from link > switch > router TO link > router > switch.

    RT-AC66U B1 - LAN interface acts strangely

Noob here, but it seems to me that putting the router before the switch would be the logical configuration. Nice ASCII plan.

    Many log events - WLCEVENTD

Another observation on the repetition of WLCEVENTD Authorizations, Disassociations and ReAssociations: IOS 14 has a private WiFi setting (for anti-tracking) that seems to be the cause of this. Disabling private WiFi in IOS stops the WLCEVENTD cycling.

    Many log events - WLCEVENTD

After setting log level to 5, uiDivStats stopped showing info. Diversion still worked but the reporting failed. Re-enabled log level 6 and uiDivStats are back.

    Many log events - WLCEVENTD

I've been searching for days to resolve this - thank you!

My closest neighbor's router is always switching to my WiFi channel.

If you can, add high-gain antennas to the router. Then your neighbor(s) can worry about your interference.

would anyone recommend 2 x RT-AC68U to create mesh network?

Back to the OP's question: I have just changed the setup of two AC68U from router / repeater to a mesh network. The devices are in separate buildings about 150' apart in a fairly congested area. There is one ALFA dual band directional antenna on the node. AiMesh was not possible without this...

    Wireless to an outbuilding

I’m running a pair of ASUS RT-AC68U between 2 buildings about 150’ apart in a fairly congested area with lots of people running multiple non-standard channels. With 9dbi antennas on both and one ALFA dual band directional antenna ($12) on the repeater I’m getting > 150 Mbps at about -60 dBm...
