    386.5 Alpha1?

Generally client roaming is controlled by the client itself (your laptop): it should see its available access point options and select accordingly. Sometimes this can take time, especially when moving between locations, or if the relative signal strength/quality is marginal (and also not always...

Method to re-populate (upload) DHCP dhcp_staticlist after 386.4 FW?

I'm following this thread, though my interest is more for the custom_clientlist and custom_usericon - ie. the manually entered client names/icons into the Asus GUI to help make client names more easily identifiable and "neater" (OCD alert!) - I'm less bothered about static DHCP reservations (I...

How to choose between Cake and Adaptive\Flex QoS

My opinion, one that you totally didn’t ask for: Two grown adults, clearly that know a thing or two about the subject matter (and likely a way lot more), both using said knowledge to steer the conversation to prove their point vs. acknowledging the other may in some way or another also have a...

How to choose between Cake and Adaptive\Flex QoS

Question: do I need to go get more popcorn, or have you two finished the love-in?! :p

    386.5 Alpha1?

I have been patiently waiting for two things: Release of 386.5 alpha for AX88U. @shabbs to install it and report back on Nest/IoT connectivity (relative to 386.4 and 386.3) - some though not all of my Nest cameras and other IoT devices have been up and down like yoyo's since 386.4, unfortunate...

Dual WAN failover - network monitoring option checkbox

    Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone use BT's 4G Assure (USB dongle) directly connected to their Asus router?

Trying to make this work. Currently double-NAT'ing with my BT business hub just to retain the 4G Assure functionality. Specifically I'm using an AX88U, but should be same/similar for any Asus router that supports USB WAN connectivity. Technically I see no reason why it shouldn't - it's just a...

Dual WAN failover - network monitoring option checkbox

Playing around the Dual WAN failover for the first time.. seems confusing the two network monitoring options are checkboxes - I'd expect it to be one or the other? Either neither are checked (default) = how does failover ever work? Is there something else? If one is checked = seems to work If...

Repeatedly down/up WAN PPPoE connection - impact/variability on latency?

Back in the days of fiddling with all-in-one routers and their integrated modems connected to crappy ADSL lines, frequent reboots (eg. as might be necessary when making unrelated configuration changes, or people unwittingly unplugging them!) often had a detrimental impact on link speed - your...

How to choose between Cake and Adaptive\Flex QoS

In the interest of preventing bufferbloat, isn't QoS always useful even on the fastest of connections (assuming chosen QoS + hardware is capable of matching the bandwidth available)?

    [ 386.4 alpha Build(s) ] Testing available build(s)

Let's hope said enlightened Asus management folk have joined the dots: ongoing delays in releasing updated GPL puts the Asuswrt-Merlin project in jeopardy - while it may be an upstream blocker and not Asus themselves, like anything in business, throw enough resource at it and/or engage in some...

SIX months since Merlin included updated Asus GPL - what's cooking at Asus ???

Good to hear, thanks. I for one am reading this as a positive - while of course anything could always happen.. definitely sounds like a “pause” as opposed to the plug being potentially pulled. I’ll be impatiently (though quietly) watching this space!

SIX months since Merlin included updated Asus GPL - what's cooking at Asus ???

Fully respecting this @RMerlin , changing the angle slightly, are you able/willing to give us a view on <whatever> being resolvable at some point (hopefully soon!) and things returning to business-as-usual in terms of the conveyer belt of bits & bobs you need from Asus being started back up...

SIX months since Merlin included updated Asus GPL - what's cooking at Asus ???

Informative - yes - though not sure how helpful as we'd still be no closer to another GPL code release and still the uncertainty of their stance/willingness/ability to do this moving forward. Potentially could be the direction we are heading, though would need thought from both Asus and...

    AiMesh "one click system optimization"

Thanks. Figured as much. In the past I've had some seemingly nonsensical daisy-chaining of nodes' backhauls, this seems to have improved of late (ie. doesn't randomly switch) and anchored by now being able to manually select what links to what. But what I don't understand is - what does this...

    AiMesh "one click system optimization"

The latest and greatest firmware includes the new AiMesh GUI and quite a few new features - seems AiMesh 2.0 has matured nicely. Included is the promise "System optimization: one click in AiMesh to optimize the topology" - while I've found the button, does anyone know what it actually does (ie...

    [384.18_Alpha Builds] Testing all variants

The binaries/drivers required for AX hardware to support this aren't included within this build yet (despite now being available from Asus and hence their release note, per mentioned in my post above these will presumably be integrated once compatibility is achieved across the other two AX...

    [384.18_Alpha Builds] Testing all variants

Thanks Merlin. I look forward to this merge/release, as and when, which I guess will make most sense (ie. most bang for buck) when Asus get round to releasing updated binaries and code for the RT-AX56U and RT-AX58U respectively (or at least one of them).. or you get bored of waiting which of...

[Release] FreshJR Adaptive QOS (Improvements / Custom Rules / and Inner workings)

Apologies if I'm breaking "old news" here, I was following this thread but have missed the last few weeks of posts.. For those running AiMesh: seems upgrading a node to firmware including Asus' updated QoS, when connected to a base router that doesn't yet include the Asus QoS update (eg. Merlin...

[Release] FreshJR Adaptive QOS (Improvements / Custom Rules / and Inner workings)

I suspect it will be a combination of traffic identifiers that come via Trend Micro update signatures (no firmware update required), QoS categories (firmware update required), and hopefully some bug fixes and better QoS logic (this one is a bit of a hopeful wish!).
