Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've removed all my policy rules now and it's still happening. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my setup, Unbound or the script itself. All ads are blocked on devices set to the VPN and only some ads are blocked when set to WAN. How to replicate this issue: 1. Set a device to policy rules...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've found a bug with my setup. I've set a rule up to direct all traffic through the VPN "192.168.1.0/24" and set certain devices to go through the WAN. All devices that run through the VPN are working fine but I've noticed it's not blocking ads using diversion anymore for devices set to the...

Diversion struggling to block some ads

I'm aware of that and have added these to my black list. However it's likely this hard-coded white list takes presidence over this so that could be causing this. Thanks.

Diversion struggling to block some ads

I've got diversion lite installed on my router (AC86U). Using canyoublockit extreme test as a benchmark, I've noticed quite a few ads are still getting though. I've activated extra host lists too, such as AdGuard and AdAway. When I use NextDNS with the same blocklists, it blocks every advert...

Smart connect settings for rooms with poor 5ghz signal

There is a couple rooms in my house that is just out of reach of the 5ghz signal, but 2.4ghz still reaches. I currently have them separated but noticed there is extra settings in this router (AC86U) called smart connect rule. Is there any way to configure it so it will use 5ghz almost all the...

amtm Turn off modem without swap file corrupting

Sorry, I meant before, that was a typo. Thanks for all that info!

amtm Turn off modem without swap file corrupting

Thanks for the info. My original plan was to press reboot then hit the power button before it turns back on. Unmounting sounds like the better option.

amtm Turn off modem without swap file corrupting

I've actually got a high endurance micro SD card after reading some advice I found in an old thread. If I ever get any issues I'll consider upgrading to an SSD. Ok, I never unmounted before a fireware upgrade before but will from now on. Thanks for the tips!

amtm Turn off modem without swap file corrupting

Thank you. I have a number of installations on the router; Diversion, Skynet, Unbound and x3mrouting. I assume unmounting the USB drive before I turn the router off won't break these in any way? Also is it recommended to do this when doing a firmware upgrade too?

amtm Turn off modem without swap file corrupting

I need to turn my router (AC86U) off for a while as I'm going to change my setup. I read before that the swap file on the usb stick can corrupt easily if not careful. Is there any recommended safe way to turn it off to avoid this from happening or will it be fine to just to press the power...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

That worked, it now survives a reboot. Thank you! I'll add this to my guide.

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

    Yes I do, it contains the following: #!/bin/sh sh /jffs/scripts/x3mRouting/x3mRouting.sh ALL 1 WIP-vpn dnsmasq=whatismyipaddress.com sh /jffs/scripts/x3mRouting/x3mRouting.sh 1 0 WIP-real dnsmasq=whatsmyipaddress.com

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

Weird, did a reboot and the same issue, showing ISP IP as DNS again. Had the run the same 2 scripts to get it to work again. I wonder what's causing it.

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've never had an issue with the VPN not restarting after a reboot before. I've removed it for now and see how I get on. I agree, it's brilliant. Don't need to place any trust in any 3rd party or even the VPN provider for storing DNS logs. This script is the final piece of the puzzle, they...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

    Thanks, I got it working now by re-running: sh /jffs/scripts/x3mRouting/x3mRouting.sh ALL 1 WIP-vpn dnsmasq=whatismyipaddress.com sh /jffs/scripts/x3mRouting/x3mRouting.sh 1 0 WIP-real dnsmasq=whatsmyipaddress.com I'm not running spdMerlin. I edited the route-up/down files earlier but then...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've already tried that. I even ran the command to start the script manually and checked the IP tables, all good there but not working. Is it working for you?

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've upgraded to the latest firmware and it's now showing my ISP IP as my DNS. Is it working for anyone else? EDIT: This has been fixed and the above guide amended.

Diversion Diversion not working with OpenVPN

I put together a quick guide on how to set this up, see post #198: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/unbound-dns-vpn-client-w-policy-rules.67370/page-10

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

How to set this up, all info from the thread put into one place. This script will ensure the VPN IP is used for Unbound DNS when policy rules is set, regardless if the device is set to use the WAN or VPN. It will still work if the VPN IP ever changes or the VPN tunnel goes down, in this case...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

I've read through this whole thread but don't fully understand it. When doing a DNS leak test: 1a. For devices routed through the VPN using policy rules, does it show the VPN IP as the DNS? 1b. For devices NOT routed through the VPN, does it show the ISP IP as the DNS? 2. Or does it always...
