    Thanks for the help. When I unplugged the CL modem, the AX1800 router is smart enough that it automatically changed from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1.     Anybody know what an “aha moment” is? I went looking for the router. (It’s an xfinity). I found it in a closet. When I saw it, it dawned on me that I could connect an Ethernet cable to it. I will go to get one and report back.

    Laptop is set to dhcp, and I just updated the driver this morning. It has not changed. That is, my laptop does not “see” the ssid in the list of available networks. WinFi does not see it either. My iPad and android does see it and both can connect. I do see several other neighbors networks.

    I use 2.4 at home; so I know that works. Wifi is on channel 11. It is a strong signal, but there are several others in the area using channel 11.

    Do I need an ethernet port on laptop?

    I have fiber optic wifi at 100/100 DL/UL and am using an Asus AC-68U router. I am looking at a laptop that has no ethernet port, but does have a wifi radio that is wifi 6 (ax). Will I still get 100 Mb speeds with this laptop using wifi (and not ethernet)?
