No need to change these settings, just change the wifi channel if you have issues.

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

If I am correct, Asus routers have Broadcom chips.

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Huawei AX2 and AX3 are $50-60 but I don't know if they are sold in the US.

    Recommend Router decent 5Ghz performance?

Since none of your clients have wifi6 and your budget is limited, why are you looking for a WiFi6 router and not a wifi5 that are cheaper and more than enough for home use?

Questions on my GoCoax 2.5 Adapter Install

Also, MoCA adapters is another point of failure. They can stuck or break and they are expensive to keep a spare one in the closet. They are not very easy to find in the local stores, unlike an ethernet switch.

Looking for simple plug and play AP's for my fathers Cox XB7

So you need them to be cloud managed, correct? I have Aruba InstantOn at home and you can get 2 access points and create a mesh network in 10 minutes. Later you can add more AP to this mesh network and control in via Web and App remotely via their free cloud.

Distinct wifi access per mac address/user ?

For 1 & 3 you need Radius or some kind of Captive portal. No 2 QoS per IP address can be done with pfsense. Also many access points can do that.

    Pfsense with newer CPUs

Since you buy something, why don't you choose an Atom cpu with around 10 watt? 35 watt is still much for a device that works 24x7

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

VyOS team is preparing a GUI for basic home/lab features. I may try it when they do.

News Unreleased Pro models and just announced ExpertWiFi models native VLAN support

It is way more powerful than a firewall should be.. They have added many features that belong to "server" devices and this causes a huge attack surface for hackers to exploit. Asus does not follow this path so far. That have added cloud management and VLAN to the Pro line and nothing more.

    WiFi 7 is outdated already.

We could have some spots in the house where high speed light-based internet is available and then roam to other places using Wifi. Today if we need higher speed, we sit next to the router. It is similar.

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

This is because speed shift is supported on FreeBSD 14.

Best router for Wireguard out of the box?

But remember that WG runs on kernel mode, that is similar to NAT acceleration (aka hardware offload)

Using pfSense with a L3 core switch

If you forward dns, you can uncheck DNSSEC on unbound. Test if dnssec works with this tool https://dnssec-tools.org/test/

    Ipv6 or not ipv6?

Be sure that one day, your ISP will force you to CGNAT, then you will panic and run to IPv6 without been properly prepared. ISPs don't like to support 2 networks. They shut down 3G, they forced user to VoIP etc So, why don't you spend some time now learning and testing IPv6, instead of fighting it?
  17. Christos

    Ipv6 or not ipv6?

Don't forget that IPv6 is NAT-less and lighter for the router to handle.

    Ipv6 or not ipv6?

When my iPhone connects to 5G, gets IPv6 it has no firewall to protect it. When it connects to my LAN, it gets IPv6 + firewall protection from my pfsense. Also, my iPhone gets security patches more frequently than any firewall.

Does OFDMA Really Work? Part 2

I live in a big city with many apartments and 5Ghz band is congested. Will wifi 6 help in my case? Do OFDMA and other Wifi6 technologies help only on the same LAN or do they help to fight congestion from neighbouring networks?
