    usb adapters do not work well for ethernet. Better get a PCI ethernet card with Intel chip.

    Most important is to use a network card with Intel chip, as pfSense is based on freeBSD that works best with intel Network cards. There are PCI cards with 2 and 4 ethernet slots.

    You can create a Limiter in order to limit the bandwidth for guest VLAN. Then you must create a firewall rule in order to assign this limiter to the VLAN. You may also schedule which times of the day this limiter should be applied. And yes you need a separate DHCP server for the new guest interface.

    This is true, however if an ER-X is found at a very low price, it's a good replacement for the ISP's crappy router.

    Edgerouter X with hardware offload enabled, will saturate easily the 1000mbit connection with NAT, firewall and VLANs.
