    Replace AirPort Extreme.

True, because they offer Time Machine backups on their routers, via USB external storage.

    Replace AirPort Extreme.

I have also used an Airport express router and a thing that characterizes it, is the plug and play nature. You open the app, choose a wifi name and password and you are good to go. It is also VERY reliable. I have found the same characteristics in the HPE Aruba InstantOn wifi series, that can...

Best router for Wireguard out of the box?

On Linux, WireGuard is available as a kernel module. I don’t believe that many routers have Linux with kernel version that supports this functionality. WireGuard vs. Tailscale

PC based vs Appliance? Your thoughts

Could you share this configuration with us? I don't trust my firewall with https interception :)

PC based vs Appliance? Your thoughts

Nowadays deep packet inspection is useless because everything is encrypted. Thus firewalls don't need a Xeon cpu to handle many users.

PC based -> more power consumption Appliance -> more complexity, less performance

Reliability of Linksys ea6900 and ea6350

You can get a cheap Xiaomi Mi Router 4A (Gigabit Version) and install dd-wrt (search instructions on youtube). Using hardware offloading, it can achieve gigabit internet speed and will get software updates for a longer time than many consumer routers.

Reliability of Linksys ea6900 and ea6350

How do you know? If a hacker has exploited your router to inject ads to your webpages or redirect you to malware sites, you -as a non professional engineer- cannot know it happened because of your exploited router.

    Security problem

you can reset the router if you believe it is infected. It is like formatting your laptop and re-installing windows.

    Security problem

Any VPN would do the job, even the oldest L2TP.

    Security problem

Just avoid opening and forwarding any port. Use only VPN to access your network from outside. I believe that your dream machine will not open any port unless you ask it to.

    Replacement for RV-340

I recommend pfsense. If you cannot get an appliance from negate due to shortage, get a third party device with Intel ethernet, something like Protectli.

    Cisco Meraki MX64 Router

So, what are the benefits of a device like this, since DPI is pretty useless due to encrypted traffic? Why should it be considered as a good standalone gateway?

    Cisco Meraki MX64 Router

Nice devices but are you ok with throughput: 250 Mbps for the next 5 years?

Small Business Stack Cisco VS Ubiquiti

You can find a tiny pc with atom or celeron processor and 2 network cards, at the same price as the Cisco RV340. Then install PfSense or Opnsense on it.

Seeking Wired Router with multiple 2.5Gb Ethernet Ports

Why do you need a 2.5Gb router? Do you have internet connection faster than 1Gb?

Small Business Stack Cisco VS Ubiquiti

Have you considered a pfSense appliance as a router? I would avoid Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro and Cisco RVs will enter "End of Life" state next Ocrober.

Cisco RV vs EdgeRouter vs PepLink Balance vs ________ for Dual WAN Failover Router

Edgerouter supports FQ_CODEL QoS that minimizes latency. ER-X supports up to 100Mbps with QoS enabled and up to 940Mbps without QoS (HW offload) ER-4 supports up to 600Mbps with QoS enabled and up to 940Mbps without QoS (HW offload)

Cisco RV vs EdgeRouter vs PepLink Balance vs ________ for Dual WAN Failover Router

Low latency is more important than speed and bandwidth. It will make your connection feel faster and voice/video calls more reliable. For low latency you need QoS and bandwidth is the enemy of QoS because faster connections need faster CPU for QoS.
