    Synology Launches Enterprise NAS Line

I'm not sure about that. The company I work for (not a huge company) will write off assets over 3 years, that includes $200 SANs. It may well impact the decision making process of smaller companies tho. rgds

    Synology Launches Enterprise NAS Line

It was a 1Tb disk that was used, using RAID 1, and a Dell desktop. I was sure it took 40 mins to recreate the array, but my memory must be playing tricks on me - certainly the numbers don't add up - using the figures below, it would take a little over 2 1/2 hours: 100MB per second 1000MB...

    Synology Launches Enterprise NAS Line

I don't understand what business would buy a product that only has software raid - taking 8+ hours to rebuild an array if a disk dies; a cheap $1000 PC with hardware raid takes under one hour. To a busines, their data is their life. Seems odd to me.

    Product refreshes?

I see QNap have just bought a Plus range of products out - faster Atoms, tho they've not updated the 8bay product. Sure, the 809Pro has a fast processor in it, but it also ommits SATA and Jumbo frames. Anyone like to hazzard a guess as to whether they will replace the 809 in the near future...

    New Synology 1010+

It's interesting that a lot of newly released NAS' use the same Atom, with very good performance figures, considerably better than devices using the older big brothers, such as the ReadyNAS Pro. I guess it'll mean that that featureset of the software is the differentiator as I'd expect...

    Adding User Ratings and Comments

Nice idea, but it should be done for registered users only for the reasons already cited. In my experience, this is the most common way, and I think it works well.

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

Guest networks What are the implications of using the guest networks on the WNDR3700? I have a WNDR3700 all set up and working fine, both frequencies are using WPA2. I have a Topfield PVR to which I've connected an Asus router (via USB) with hacked firmware. This router was an access point...

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

I have a slightly odd question for someone who has one of these products. Could you describe the network cable that comes with the router? The reason for this is that I bought a WNDR3700, and I need to send it back, so am looking to ensure I send back the right bits. I bought an ADSL modem...

    Sata iii

No real reaon, just musing really. :-) But yes, USB3 would be interesting, in all sorts of applications.

    Sata iii

How long do we think it'll be before NAS boxes that support SATA III drives (and obviously I don't just mean at SATA II speeds) start appearing?

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

Just found this in the manual (5-22): Warning: If you use the wireless repeating function, your options for wireless security are limited to None or WEP. Which isn't ideal

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

Just found that there is a new firmware available (due to the check when you go into the admin pages). However, I've no idea what it fixes/adds, and if you go to the support pages (in the UK), the WNDR3700 is not listed. Has anyone in the UK tried the firmware update? rgds

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

Ok, great info - thanks. Wireless 'n' can work on either the 2.4 or 5.0 Ghz frequencies, yes? But most laptops (for example) which have 'n' will work on the 2.4 Ghz frequency, not the 5.0Ghz? I saw something in an earlier posting in this thread which read (to me) that you could only get the...

    NETGEAR WNDR3700 Reviewed

TBH, I'm more than a little confused about what speeds should be obtained in a heterogeneous network (i.e. clients connecting using a/b/g/n, on either frequency, using different encryption mechanisms, along with wired connections). If someone could point me to a straight forward description (or...

Netgear WNDR3700 available in the UK

Just scanning the manual, it looks to have some great functionality - for instance, assigning a name to a MAC address when using MAC address filtering - I always have problems remembering what MAC address applies to what wireless device. That feature is not on any of the routers I've used recently.

Netgear WNDR3700 available in the UK

Ooh, now that is exciting (tho I'm not so au fait with component specifics). The WRT400N seems to have got a pretty good review here on SNB. And the FCC site (despite the invalid security certificate) has a link to the product manual PDF, which I've downloaded and will peruse at my leisure...

Netgear WNDR3700 available in the UK

Just spoke to BroadbandBuyer and they said that Netgear had expected it to be released in August, but it's now been pushed out until October. Not sure how these things work - I'm assuming you don't get review devices until very close to the release date at the earliest, and probably not until...
