Seeing as the performance of the WD Red 8TB 7200 RPM drive is close to that of Seagate’s 5400 RPM drive, but with much higher power draw going by the data sheet clips in the article, I assume they must have been rebadging older less efficient models or some sort of firmware gimps.- avtella

Not only the SMR/CMR stuff but the 7200/5400 RPM mess. They sold drives as "5400 RPM Class" that were 7200 RPM. You got the "best" of both worlds the heat/power draw of the 7200 RPM drive and the lower performance of a 5400 RPM model lol...- avtella

Here it is, Quad 9 IPv4/IPv6, top image in resolver mode and bottom in forwarding mode. Max latency on loopback I saw was 10-13 msec, mostly still at 0 otherwise. I don't think it's your CPU, you have a more powerful one than me, my unit has a 2.4 Ghz Intel Atom C3758R. What is the "PowerD"... -

Did you try disabling DNSSEC support just for troubleshooting? Per Q9 and pFsense's own docs when using forwarding: Disable Enable DNSSEC Support if enabled. DNSSEC is already enforced by Quad9, and enabling DNSSEC at the forwarder level can cause false DNSSEC failures... -

@Tech Junky would it be possible for you to get me the config file for the TBU401? It’s for the RTL9210B USB to NVMe bridge chip so you have to be USB not Thunderbolt mode to get the Realtek tool to detect it. Can use the tool in any of the newer packages... -

I’m guessing it’s just an Intel AX210 like @Tech Junky pointed out (seems some of the customers on Amazon checked under the heat plate) like a lot of cards online. The Zyxel has 8x Rj45 10Gbe and 2 SFP+ so it’s still pretty efficient or at least not too bad. The Cisco has 4x SFP+ and rest are only 1 Gbe ports so would use less power. Could be then or smaller fan on your switch maybe meaning higher RPMs. Mine never hit the max fan speed at which it would be 50 Dbm, mostly around 28-30range I’d guess on stock fan. To be fair the Zyxel has all 10Gbe ports hence the higher max power draw. Zyxel was pretty nice to work with to...
