General question re. wifi devices disconnecting and reconnecting

I am talking about using different channels for each AP. You can exceed the number of devices supported per AP. Some companies don't publish specs for the number of supported devices. You need both the number of connected devices and the number of active devices. Consumer gear tends to be low.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

I am currently running an Intel 6100T for my Pfsense CPU for home.

    ASUS RT-BE96U $589 after $40 coupon

The price seems crazy to me for wireless router. You can put together a small business network that will move more data over multiple devices for less money, not using Wi-Fi 7, which is not even needed yet.

    vlan hardware

You are correct. You need a layer 3 device when networks are assigned to VLANs which I always do. I prefer a layer 3 switch instead of a router as they are faster and don't bottle neck on the uplink port. But it can be done using a router which supports VLANs.

News Acer Unveils Wave 7 Mesh Router with Wi-Fi 7 and Multi-Link Operation for Seamless Home Connectivity

My only thought is I don't think all my 5GHz is going to be able to do 6GHz. I need 5GHz and 6GHz at the same time as I move over. I think 2.4GHz sucks except for maybe outside wireless. But I will probably wait for Cisco. It will be a few years as I don't even own anything that runs 6GHz...

    Maximize compatibility with Wifi "B"

My Roomba vacs roam when they are running as my house is so long 1 wireless device will not cover it so they have to roam. My house is 3288 sq ft one story no basement.

    UEFIcanhazbufferoverflow

I have noticed Dell has had some new BIOS updates. It is one of the reasons I buy Dell now. In the past I would build my own PC buying motherboards. The problem I found is in after support, as it was lacking. The vendors had moved on to new motherboards and really did not want to spend time...

    vlan hardware

Why don't you try Pfsense for a router? It is free to use. I use Cisco small business as I know it will work. If there is a problem, I know it is me not the software. I find it much faster to debug that way.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

The problem with miniPCs is if you try to push them at 3GHz base frequency they over heat and they throttle back. They don't have a big enough air space to breathe. If you have to add a fan then you are adding more watts. The difference between 20 watts and 35 watts is nothing to me...

Please explain multiple APs, mesh, roaming, handoff, and broadcast frequencies

I have been pondering this for a while and the best answer I can come up with is if the system is mesh then it is using the same wireless channel. When I was taught networking back 40 years ago mesh was considered a redundant system so the only way I can see that marketing could have coined...

    Maximize compatibility with Wifi "B"

5GHz A was designed for business. 2.4GHz b was designed for home. I missed the caps key as I have been drinking. Sorry. But I love my Roomba vacs. They are on a schedule and keep my house clean running 2 days now for the last 6 months. Prior to that they ran 3 days a week. I got tired of...

    Maximize compatibility with Wifi "B"

I am talking about 5GHz "A". You need to study up. I run both my Roombas at the same time to reduce the noise as they finish twice as fast. Nowadays it is not smart to run 2.4GHz "b".

    Maximize compatibility with Wifi "B"

I run 2 Roomba robots in my house with no problems. The first one is over 3 years old. I liked the first one so well I bought a second one. I have not had a Wi-Fi problem that I remember. I have 2.4GHz b blocked. I don't think anybody uses 5GHz a anymore. There was never a 5GHz b.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

For home not many cores. For a business more cores.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

I shoot for 3GHz CPU base system for my router. They are getting harder to find. Most of the high clock CPUs have fewer cores and Intel is going away from that style of CPU. I am also looking for around 35-watt CPUs.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

That is not my skills so you have fun. I believe the lastest NIC drivers are in FreeBSD 15.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

It is why I am choosy about my firewalls and who stands behind them. They need to be the expert. It is one of the reasons I run Cisco networking equipment.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

But I would assume FreeBSD 15 gets the latest patches as that is where development is I guess I am more cutting edge. I don't want to wait for patches to be back ported. I prefer bare metal for firewalls. I don't want another layer of software which can have its own software issues on top of it.

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

So, has OPNsense moved to FreeBSD version 15? Last I looked is they were still on an older FreeBSD like 13. Way behind on security updates not using FreeBSD 15. I am still on 24.03. My problem right now is I can't change my NIC. I have time to play with 10gig. I don't think the drivers...

Tuofudun mini PC - anyone have experience?

Instead of buying an additional mini-PC I use my older Dell PCs when I buy a new PC. I usually buy PCs with low wattage CPUs now. If I did not then I just replace the CPU with a 35-watt CPU and use it for a router.
