What's the Best Router for OpenVPN?

another option, one of AMD ryzen + vega development board with 2x 10Gb/s ports or multiple usb-c to ethernet ports, though you will have to buy your own ram and SSD. Thats as small as you can get that you could fit in the palm of your hands. I have the one for udoo ordered already but the...

What's the Best Router for OpenVPN?

"Best", so i would recommend the best of intel xeon or AMD epyc, along with a full set of ram to fill all the channels and sufficient NICs. you dont want the best router, you want the best mini PC which currently is an intel i3 or amd ryzen with integrated vega.

NEEDED Cisco RV320 router Firmware Update

Segmentation. Security issues on mikrotik is also prevented the same way, by preventing management access to WAN and others. This is something you cant do with consumer routers where a security issue could mean management accessed from WAN and nothing you can do of it, except for RMerlin's...

DHCP fixed IP on IoT devices as additional security measurement

for fun :p . You know when you're a network geek and do something for no particular reason? Besides that also means hardcoded malware will have issues too.

DHCP fixed IP on IoT devices as additional security measurement

Use a 6to4 tunnel for WAN and have 0.0.0.0/0 as your LAN :P

Are UBNT Switches a good choice? 8 port POE

Same AC Input (100-250V) global, just different cable. Whats going on is that despite the same PSU, the different input voltage can affect the lifespawn of the device/ PSU. Low voltages are better for the device, more amps is bad for the PSU.

NEEDED Cisco RV320 router Firmware Update

so if the router's web based management is unreachable from WAN, you should be safe? Although router management should never be available to WAN or any big LAN.

    Help networking a school

I dont think they have one for PCs but you could check, however their controller isnt very useful if you can configure things yourself individually and just use a software for central SNMP. You could but the thing about APs is less is better. More to the point of coverage and preventing...

    Replace aging AC66U

single unit, just with 3 radios. having 2 5Ghz 4 channel radios is pointless. I suggested 2 2 channnel 5Ghz radios because their spectrum use is smaller, but a single 4 channel radio will also work as well. MU-MIMO is the one that will make a difference and qualcomm's implementation is better...

    Replace aging AC66U

qualcomm based MU-MIMO would be the best, get a 4 channel variant or 2 2 channel radio APs with MU-MIMO would also be good allowing to use 2 different 5Ghz spectrums.

DHCP fixed IP on IoT devices as additional security measurement

Its better to have controlled DHCP rather than fixed IP, the reason is that the device may not obey everything. So having the router control everything is better from DHCP To NTP even DNS as well by hijacking and redirecting packets as necessary, same can be done to prevent WAN access for your...

Ubiquiti Users -- questions for you

The hardware for the USG and one of the edgerouters are the same, just running different firmware. You cant just install the firmware either as its registered so you need the license/key for it. It would be good if ubiquiti would include their edgerouters into their controller software even if...

    New House - 3,600 Sqft - Cat6 installed...Wireless Mesh?

They've always been simple, but now the managed equipment has gotten cheap and into the house where previously you'd just see unmanaged switches and different mediums and an unreliable router. Its always good to use managed switches and is a must with POE for safety. Not only do you see stats...

2 (or multiple) printers on AsusWRT/Merlin?

linux based system, not asuswrt, thats why i mentioned using RMerlin firmware because you can install some things and cups does have useful features for networking both usb printers and scanners. My network printer actually has something similar built in that lets you print/scan without drivers...

2 (or multiple) printers on AsusWRT/Merlin?

you can connect multiple printers, i strongly suggest using CUPS compatible setup if possible which could require installing something via RMerlin firmware. You could connect a raspberry pi to the router for power, and connect printers to raspberry pi and setup cups.

    New House - 3,600 Sqft - Cat6 installed...Wireless Mesh?

you could as long as the orbis are not sharing the same wire as the other switches if you so happen to have local transfers or gigabit internet. So you can connect the orbi to the switch at the edge or the central switch (this one is better) and run multiple cables to each room. PS4 will enjoy...

    New House - 3,600 Sqft - Cat6 installed...Wireless Mesh?

Step 1, wire what you can. Mesh is no means for a high bandwidth system if you use a wireless backhaul, wire what you can and the few at the edge that cant be wired would not disturb performance. Step 2, place as few APs as you can. Place them well instead, you save money too. Step 3, use...

Cutting the cord...need help on final buy list

yup, keep them away from electrical interference. If you have a multi phase electrical system, try to separate the interference to another phase and powerline on the same phase. cat6 can run 10Gb/s up to 50m i believe, cat6a even more. Cat 7 doesnt exist. I suggest using both cat6a and cat6...

Cutting the cord...need help on final buy list

avoid passing fuse boxes and phases if possible, get the highest rated AV you can because more likely you'll get 10% of rated speeds. so AV2000 will give you 200mb/s practical. Place the plugs further from switching based PSUs or before them.
