    AX86U Merlin and Cake QoS

Bell Fibreop FTTH - comes into a Nokia G-240G-A ONT then into the Asus AX86U. VLAN 35 for bell fibreop (northerntel)..............but maybe it's not ideal, I just took the best guess from the Wan packet overhead drop-down menu. Wired cat6 from router to PC. Thanks I will try from 5 and go up...

    AX86U Merlin and Cake QoS

So I was/am having issues with DL/UL pings all over the place, as in up to 600ms. Connection is 250/30. Setting cake qos manual to 245-DL basically fixed the DL. UL manual settings from 30 to 20 in 1Mbps increments, no change. WAN packet overhead set to internet with VLAN. Just wondering...

Eastlink 900/15 FTTP vs. FibreOp FTTH 250/30

Just for comparison in northern Ontario - Put this under Merlin since ax86 is running it - maybe there is a better thread for it? Eastlink 900/15 below And Bell fibreop 250/30 below

    Proper PPPoE Setup on Merlin?

Well was pretty simple just had to 1. clone actiontec r3000 router mac to AX86u 2. set vlan to 35

    Proper PPPoE Setup on Merlin?

Hmmm apparently my setup is a bit defferent from Bell, although it is Bell FibreOP offered through NorthernTel. Fibre comes into a Nokia G-240G-A ONT then into an Actiontec R3000.........which says ISP protocol 1483 over DHCP. A buddy says might have to clone MAC address over to Asus router...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_2 is now available

Ya familiar with that, however, if I rebooted it on July 28th, then it stayed May 5th, then jumped to Aug 4th to May5th then back to Aug 4th? But if that's the norm, fine by me. Just curious where July 29th to Aug 3rd went?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_2 is now available

Is this typical for log to jump times like this? Jul 28 20:02:58 kernel: eth0 (Int switch port: 3) (Logical Port: 3) (phyId: c) Link DOWN. May 5 01:05:07 kernel: klogd started: BusyBox v1.25.1 (2024-04-26 14:22:45 EDT) . . . May 5 01:05:07 kernel: Detecting PHYs... Aug 4 11:56:08 Mastiff...

    Thank you, Sir!!

    Proper PPPoE Setup on Merlin?

Just curious if it matters how this is setup? Asus has an FAQ that goes through windows settings. The other two I have seen are setting it up from a factory default............old pic. This would be for bell fibreop coming out of a Nokia G-240G-A ONT. I honestly don't know why Bell doesn't...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.8_2 is now available

No issues that I know of. What should I set the log to and report..........only criticals?

    ..

Hard to recall, I think I was with the latest one, I think I rolled back to 2.2.2.0. I do have 1Gb DL ISP, but get 700Mbps max. Could be playing with the NIC settings when troubleshooting before changing out the driver. as in these settings. (Handle on TPU is Mechtech)

    ..

Same, I think I got the TP-link one, which supports FW upgrading from Marvell. So far it seems fine, however it's only doing 1Gb since that's my network at the moment. What I have noticed though is Marvell hasn't or doesn't support driver updates as frequently as intel.

    Intel I225-V and network switches

Hmm, I'd be wary, I have read that even ver.3 can still have some issues, and I think it's at version 4 now?? I have read that the latest version realtek 2.5Gb chip is pretty good. The Intel i210-T1 is supposed to be good but only 1Gb, but supported to 2035 or something? (regarding Ethernet...

    [tools] Waveform Bufferbloat Test

I used to play CSS on a 500kbps/50kbps connection with no issues. (circa 2005) CS 1.6 was on dial up!! from the site Do your video or audio calls sometimes stutter? Does your web browsing slow down? Do video games lag? - NOPE If so, bufferbloat may be to blame. ya or 20 other reasons...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 beta is now available for AC models

Are there any applications that could extend the life of these routers, or are they basically e-waste in a year?

Asus moving some devices to EOL while issues still remain

What's a bit worrying about that list is the AX86U is not listed as a replacement for anything. Makes me wonder how much time it has left? I just bought mine less than 1 year ago.
