FS: Arris SurfBoard Cable Modem - SB6190

Maybe you never relied on any lag sensitive applications like VOIP, gaming or maybe the TCP streams being interrupted every few seconds didnt effect streaming video for you.

FS: Arris SurfBoard Cable Modem - SB6190

You pretty much got to have more morals than ARRIS, Intel, and the rest of the companies who know this chip is defective and continue to sell it. Take the hit, and don't try and pawn it off on someone unwitting soul. I know I did.

Ubiquiti Adds Three Managed Switches To Its UniFi Platform

Ordered one of these US-8-60W, gets here Monday. Replacing a netgear GS018Tv2. Pretty excited to try it out.

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

Yeah the usg didn't do well, and the reviews have been underwhelming for the pro as well. All that considered I still think it will perform better than a ER-X and like I said I already have the hEX which has the same hardware. So the ER-X would have been a side grade. I also think that over the...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

Well, I didn't get the ER-X SFP, since I found someone selling their practically new USG-PRO-4 for $200. I know it doesn't run EdgeOS, and it is currently lacking features, but I think it will end up being a good buy. I also think it will end up being a little more future proof then the ER-X...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

Yeah I am going to order one and give it a try, be interesting to see what the real world speeds are like.

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

Basically fast path doesn't work with queues at all period end of story (despite what some say). If you have queues they dont work if fastpath is on. Its either/or not both. So I set up 3 simple queues, no mangle rules necessary at all: One is the routers address (192.186.88.1) at unlimited...

    CES 2017 Wrapup: Wi-Fi At A Crossroads

Well I agree. On the other hand: I also think there are things they offer like geo-filtering (or whatever they call it) can help (especially in games with no server browser). It won't work for all games, but it works for quite a few. When your router is preventing the game from selecting...

    CES 2017 Wrapup: Wi-Fi At A Crossroads

Can someone explain why they think these "gamer" solution are "snake oil". Seems to me that they intend to make a relatively transparent QoS solution for gaming, and to be honest that isn't exactly trivial. Go spend a day googling QoS and look at how much confusion there is on the subject. It's...

    CES 2017 Wrapup: Wi-Fi At A Crossroads

I'd say that there are two aspects to it, the big one is it appears to be seriously flawed (and judging by the "fixes" so far it is not something that can be fixed in firmware). The other is, although it is a very real and very noticeable issue, 99.99% of the owners have no idea that it is...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

My understanding is queues only work on packet marks not connection marks. But connection marks are used for basically all the other stuff. That is why I mark the connection for pass through then mark the upload and download packets for the PC and assign them to that connection mark for pass...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

Yeah I think it is a mixture of language barrier, and the non professsional people don't know a whole lot. Whereas the professional people are either not necessarily the type of people who help for free or so beyond speaking at a level that a novice can understand, that there help isn't really...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

I basically just mark a connection as PC_Connection with passthrough. Then I mark the packets for uploads to that connection, and downloads to that connection. Then I create 3 mangle rules: 1 each for up and down to the pc, and one for everything else. The queue type I am using is PFIFO, which I...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

I gave up on it, and decided if I have a large known download to do like a game or something I will turn ON Fasttrack (when I do that, my bufferbloat goes to a C, but my speed on all tests goes to 350Mbps). When I don't have a large download, I will turn OFF fasttrack, my bufferbloat goes to an...

Need help with mangle rules on hEX

OK I have a couple of mangle rules set up on a hEX. This has solved my bufferbloat issue. The issue is: When I use certain speedtests like dslreports or Net Analyzer I get full speed (350Mbps). When I use other speed tests or downloading games off of steam: They both cap out at 200Mbps. When I...

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

I will say one thing I wish the Orbi guest network had a VLAN ID or if it does that they would at least tell us the VLAN ID for the guest network. As it is now if you are using the Orbi in AP mode, there is no way to prevent guess access to the LAN. I know I can do it if I knew the IPs of every...

QoS issues for VOIP (are some better than others)

Actually it all depends how complex you want to get to fix the issue, and how much throughput you plan on future proofing for. The Mikrotik hEXr3 is doing QoS (11 firewall rules, 2 simple queues) at my home and getting 350Mbs with only 45% CPU usage. It's $49 on balticnetworks. It's not...

QoS issues for VOIP (are some better than others)

I'd say an ERL is fine for your connection speed right now, but the ERL tops out at ~60Mbps when hardware acceleration is off (QoS on) so definitely get the ER-X.. The ER-X is faster in that regard, despite being cheaper.

Help with a simple Queue on RouterOS please

Actually I just had to turn off the firewall rule that had fasttrack. Once I did that the original configuration i had worked. I will say this, it fixed my bufferbloat issue, I went from a C to an A. One other thing, with 11 firewall rules and two simple queues this router handles 350Mb/s with...
