Raspberry Pi or Orange Pi for a DIY NAS ?

I have been considering a G3 to use as a Proxmox host.

Raspberry Pi or Orange Pi for a DIY NAS ?

Nonetheless, not at all what the OP asked for.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

A datapoint. AX86U, no scripts, add ons, etc. Many (>10) IoT devices on 2.4 and <10 devices of all sorts on 5. No dropouts, pauses, disconnects, etc. I have done dirty upgrades from the last release through the alpha and betas. I do manually set channels, only use 80 instead of 160. Some of the...

Raspberry Pi or Orange Pi for a DIY NAS ?

You know, someone asks a simple, straight forward question with two options. He gets two pages of crap about used sff, why he should dump hundreds into a commercial NAS. @sfx2000 gave clear lucid info on what was asked. The rest is preening shirte.

Raspberry Pi or Orange Pi for a DIY NAS ?

Which Orange Pi? I've had one that throttled due to heat. Reading a few reviews, while less expensive, you're pretty much left on your own. I did get a NanoPi R4S and it was really nicely put together, ran Armbian, never broke a sweat with anything I threw at it. With the Raspberry, you have...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Hardly anyone, especially the occasional visitor, reads the changelog. Just look at any thread here for confirmation.

    Thank you.

    LAN IPv6 DNS Entry

Can you have 2 (or more) entries on the LAN-DHCP Server-IPv6 DNS Server box? If so, how to enter them? With ; or , or just a space between?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

All normal here with a pretty clean config. DDNS, IPv4 & IPv6 port forwards, static addresses assigned, DNS Director directing. No add-ons or scripts in use. I lead a boring life, but a reliable one.

    Recommended Ethernet Cable Brands

One less thing to ignore. I used to color code my cables, make the lengths exact for each run, etc, etc. Fast forward a year, oops. When it was my job, sure. Shucks, we used to use twine and bundle the cables nicely. At home, meh.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I'd think that folks with 3rd party addons, self-inflicted self-created scripts, etc should remove all of them while beta testing. More often than not, the issue isn't something seen on stock Merlin firmware. My AX86U is running fine. IPv6 enabled, DDNS enabled, static IPs assigned, ports (IPv4...

Wow! Much more artisan than what he did here. My guy just finished the racks and is running the cable through the house now.

    Thank You @RMerlin

Thanks! Though I have strayed from the build for a while, I returned because of the ease of doing what it is I do using this firmware. Nothing else compares in the enduser aspect.

Oh, so you use the same guy.

    Recommended Ethernet Cable Brands

I only use bespoke, artisan crafted cables. Unless the artisan is busy. Then I go to Amazon and search for cat 6 sort by ratings. Pick the cheapest of them, buy. If it suck when it arrives, return it and search again. Haven't had cable problems in years.

I'm more of a Uma kinda guy.

    IPv6 question

Tsk, tsk. Don't reword my reply. Nobody said I do or don't use any type, just that I do rely on IPv6.

    IPv6 question

I have IPv6 implemented and have for quite some time. Why? Well, at first, because I could. How do you learn (positives and negatives) without using/doing something on your own equipment with your own software? Once you get your head around ULA, Link-Local, and Multicast it all becomes much...
