BACKUPMON BACKUPMON v1.5.10 -Mar 1, 2024- Backup/Restore your Router: JFFS + NVRAM + External USB Drive! (**Thread closed due to age**)

Yes, that's true! A cheap SATA-USB adapter is less than $3, but I ran out of spare SSDs around the house. I see some used Samsung SATA 128GB SSD drives for $10 on eBay - I hate to hoard more of those, but desperate times ... :)

BACKUPMON BACKUPMON v1.5.10 -Mar 1, 2024- Backup/Restore your Router: JFFS + NVRAM + External USB Drive! (**Thread closed due to age**)

For now I am backing up to another SSD partition - I guess another USB drive would make it more redundant. But ! I am concerned how hot the USB connector gets - I'll probably buy a short USB extender just to dissipate heat. I just found an 8GB MLC flash drive in my collection - that's a true...

BACKUPMON BACKUPMON v1.5.10 -Mar 1, 2024- Backup/Restore your Router: JFFS + NVRAM + External USB Drive! (**Thread closed due to age**)

This is good, but there is another place, in the script itself - the configuration section (in case people don't read the post too carefully :) ). This is where I got confused! I think it should say: (Default = Blank, No Exclusions file, Everything is backed up) Selection: 8 8. What is the...

BACKUPMON BACKUPMON v1.5.10 -Mar 1, 2024- Backup/Restore your Router: JFFS + NVRAM + External USB Drive! (**Thread closed due to age**)

I just ran into this as well (my first use of backupmon) - probably wording could be adjusted to indicate that the current default does not exclude anything!

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I have frequent asd/dcd errors, and micro-crashes with 386.12_4 on AC86u every few hours. So as an experiment, I disabled all of Trend Micro stuff by revoking the license. And of course, all the errors stopped right there. No issues of any kind. Re-enabled the bulk of TM things today (except for...

Scribe /usr/bin/logger messages don't make it to the log file - intermittent issue

OK, 12_4 does exactly the same things. Sometimes it works for stretches of times, sometimes the messages are missing. Software reboot does not fix it. But with all asd/dcd micro-crashes it tends to switch on or off by itself after a few days. Recently it occurred to me that a hard reboot...

jffs2: wrong data CRC in data node at

I tried to see if there is anything obvious with /jffs. Below is some output from the nice utility here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/mtd_check-an-application-to-give-information-and-scan-mtd-partitions.78990/ The only obvious thing is lots of blocks are partially occupied. But no bad...

jffs2: wrong data CRC in data node at

Started getting these CRC messages during reboots, 1 per reboot: admin@RT-AC86U-9988:/# grep CRC messages-20231203 Dec 1 04:05:10 kernel: jffs2: notice: (1110) check_node_data: wrong data CRC in data node at 0x02cd2874: read 0x57c3845c, calculated 0xd86ecad6. admin@RT-AC86U-9988:/# grep CRC...

Best-practices for replacing ASUS RT-AX86U with ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (=moving everything from the existing router to a replacement one)?

Another option is to dump all nvram variables : nvram show | sort > nvram.txt Then one can fish out a few settings by using grep. For example, customized device names are easiest to transfer via the nvram variable.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

If you so wish, you could run a script daily that'd look at some of these things, and try to shake some of the occupied memory loose. Here is an example of what I am running via cron jobs. It helped to stabilize things with WiFi a bit longer between reboots, although did not fully address WiFi...

Scribe /usr/bin/logger messages don't make it to the log file - intermittent issue

What is interesting is that missing logging persisted across reboots, sometimes several of them! This was happening on version 386.12_0. Then it would start working again, and that persisted across several reboots too. So far 386.12_4 seems to be well behaved, I'll keep observing if the logging...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Which Martinski's script are you talking about? Link? I updated to 386.12_4 on AC86u more than 2 days ago. At first, the log was full of asd and dcd errors. Then about ~24 hours after a reboot they all disappeared. And now it's running error free. Cannot talk about dig errors, I filtered them...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

One can consult flash memory write cycle expectations: https://www.kingston.com/en/blog/pc-performance/difference-between-slc-mlc-tlc-3d-nand I expect the router eMMC to be no worse than TLC - meaning 3k cycles. That's slightly more than 8 years of daily full re-writes. If the memory is MLC -...

Scribe /usr/bin/logger messages don't make it to the log file - intermittent issue

Logging was not working, updated to 386.12_4, it suddenly started working, but with a ~30 min delay after a reboot. Cannot believe it takes that long for post-mount script to get to the scheduling command: > egrep 'ntpd|BusyBox|Temp' messages Nov 23 13:36:26 ntpd: Started ntpd Nov 23 13:37:06...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I saw that on one of the routers with 386.7_2 as well. Usually took a few days to get there. Anyway, nightly reboots now, and all is good. In /jffs/scripts/post-mount : cru a ScheduledReboot "5 4 * * 1,2,3,4,5 reboot"

Entware dig can not run in 386.12

Is this relatively clean to do? I am still chasing my favorite problem, and may try this. Here is the problem I have: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/usr-bin-logger-messages-dont-make-it-to-the-log-file-intermittent-issue.87504/ After holidays I'll probably go to 12_4 version, and re-do...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

You don't say what the error was for the Asus tool. Can you try that on a different computer to ensure it gives you the same error? It's possible flash memory went bad. It's possible re-writing the firmware again can avoid those bad cells. You can search for JTAG info for the model, and see...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I had similar issues with plain 386.12 as well! The issue would usually occur after ~3+ days of operations, sometimes a couple of weeks would pass. Implemented nightly reboots - so it's refreshed :)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

A reboot barely influences the temperature though - not enough time for that. I do think that running at elevated temperatures makes the electronics age faster - but rebooting does not seem to contribute much.
