Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

That's kind of hard to believe. There are no moving pieces inside. What's the exact mechanism for added wear and tear from more frequent reboots?

    Router temperatures - 2023

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I am not fully sure - but it seemed there was some subtle screwy-ness with AC86U running 12_2, and the node AC68U running 12_0. Weird small connection freezes which I don't recall before. Anyway, I ended up reverting to 12_0 on AC86U, and since I do filter out a bunch of messages from the log...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Had this issue on 12_0 - TMicro was running. Gave up and implemented nightly reboots, as to keep things always fresh. I had similar issues with 12_0. It'd happen from time to time after a good stretch of uptime. Had to reboot manually. I implemented nightly reboots. Since then a couple of...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

dig issue seems related to uiDivStats slowly becoming obsolete, so the fix is to get rid of uiDivStats entirely if one wants to get rid of these errors: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/need-help-with-syslog-being-spammed-with-kernel-messages.87490/ But I'll keep it running for now. asd/dcd...

Scribe A filter to drop kernel dcd tainted errors :

Tweaked the filter for just 1 kernel test given that 12.2 still has many of the kernel errors: filter z_bcm_err { ( program("kernel") and ( message("^x[0-9]") or message("^PC") or message("^LR") or message("^pc") or message("^sp") or message("^task") or...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

It only took them how many years to fix dcd? TrendMicro is an amazing company (NOT)! Strange that'd call themselves a "security company" ... P.S. Installed it on AC86U, something else appears to crash early at the end of the boot process: ... Nov 13 18:00:08 RT-AC86U-9988 kernel: dig[25184]...

AC68u fast blinking power light from time to time (nvram issue)

No report that I could get. I am not sure that eMMC can reveal this type of granularity. It's more cause/effect type of deduction. I did a bunch of writes to NVRAM partition, now things appear more stable. The hope was that the eMMC controller would notice the flaky flash cells upon multiple...

AC68u fast blinking power light from time to time (nvram issue)

Short term report - so far the node survived a few reboots just fine, and seems to be working OK (knock on wood). Hopefully, the flash cleansing above killed all the flaky cells, so only the good ones are now in the circulation. Will see how it goes.

Scribe /usr/bin/logger messages don't make it to the log file - intermittent issue

I am running Scribe with Entware. Sometimes my cron job messages don't make it to the "messages" file for stretches of time, then it's all fine again for a while. Here is an example of a cron job that I want to output to messages every 15 min: cru a temp "*/15 * * * * /jffs/scripts/temp_check...

386.10 on AC86U losing all 2.4Ghz devices (seemed to be fixed in 386.9.0)

Yes, too high. See this, and posts above and below: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/386-10-on-ac86u-losing-all-2-4ghz-devices-seemed-to-be-fixed-in-386-9-0.84141/page-3#post-867583 Somebody had a 70C router switch by itself to 90C router - probably aging. I have a fan on the back of mine...

RTRMON RTRMON v1.6.9 -May 3, 2024- Monitor your Router's Health (New: AMTM, Network Conn/Bandwidth/Diag + Port Scanner + Speedtest) [NEW THREAD OPENED]

Put a cron job to see if the web server is working. Will monitor logs to see if it ever is caught stopped. Next step - will replace the echo message with reboot :) # grep web post-mount cru a webhealth "*/5 * * * * /jffs/scripts/web_health | /usr/bin/logger -t web_interface" # cat...

RTRMON RTRMON v1.6.9 -May 3, 2024- Monitor your Router's Health (New: AMTM, Network Conn/Bandwidth/Diag + Port Scanner + Speedtest) [NEW THREAD OPENED]

I think I've seen posts on this forum talking about unresponsive UI and having to push the button to reboot. I do have a nightly reboot already - but this happened even sooner, one time. I am thinking now that a cron job can do something like this: wget localhost/Main_Login.asp And then I'd...

RTRMON RTRMON v1.6.9 -May 3, 2024- Monitor your Router's Health (New: AMTM, Network Conn/Bandwidth/Diag + Port Scanner + Speedtest) [NEW THREAD OPENED]

Right ... But I often can no longer ssh to the router when things go south. So I need something on the router to monitor the health of httpd, and if it's bad - the script should restart the router fully.

RTRMON RTRMON v1.6.9 -May 3, 2024- Monitor your Router's Health (New: AMTM, Network Conn/Bandwidth/Diag + Port Scanner + Speedtest) [NEW THREAD OPENED]

Great tool! I have a question - I did not find if it can monitor the health of the web interface. Can it? Sometimes my router becomes flaky, and web interface in unavailable. I'd like to have a cron job check that somehow, and reboot the router when it happens. Thoughts?

    What became of your TM-AC1900?

Hmm, cough cough, there is a certain procedure out there that enables TM-AC1900 to get anything ac68u, including the latest Merlin. It's not the formally blessed support, but the device will be running software indistinguishable from a new AC68u ! That's as supported in my book as it ever gets...

    What became of your TM-AC1900?

A new RT-AC68U on Amazon is still $70, and it's hardware brother R7000 is $170! Thus I don't really get why TM-AC1900 needs to be written off just yet - it's not like it's a WRTL54G which one is really too old for anything useful.

AC68u fast blinking power light from time to time (nvram issue)

OK, I tried it, but it does not report bad blocks on AC68U. It seems such piece of info is missing. I was wondering if I could somehow just write zeros to mtd1 a bunch of times, and have it deal with badblocks. admin@RT-AC68U-FF68:/jffs/scripts# ls -lta /sys/class/mtd/mtd1 drwxr-xr-x 2...

This actually sounds interesting! I will try it, and see where it goes.
