Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

Thank you both for taking the time. I will try experiment over the week-end with your suggestions. Worst case scenario, I'll take advantage of the new 2_1 release and proceed with a clean install, testing as much as I can before adding the incremental 'add-ons' @Swinson I appreciate I wan't...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

Thank you for responding. I believe my issue is a DNS leak ( I am not 100% sure as I don't know how to check my public ip on a a device different from PC/Laptop). I use Netflix on an Apple TV with a manually assigned IP. I use ExpressVPN as provider and rely on the router's selective routing...

Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules

Hi @Kingp1n You mentioned in an earlier post you had been on trial with another VPN provider, though per your signature it appears you did not proceed. I don't mean to be nosy, but was such decision driven by technical difficulties you encountered with their solution? As it happens, I have been...

Unbound Unbound and OpenVPN clients - basics?

Hello Though the issue has been dealt with to a certain extent in other threads (see Unbound Unbound DNS VPN Client w/policy rules) I found the discussions there quite specific and beyond my technical abilities. I have been - happily - using unbound as DNS resolver for all devices on my...

Solved Wifi 6 / ax connection testing

Hello [Edit: GUI does indeed offer the ability to activate/deactivate wifi 6 (Wireless/General/Enable wifi 6). Dumb I. I guess I must try on the client itself. Apologies.] My router is ax-capable and I am considering getting hold of a wifi6-ready client, mainly on the assumption I would get...

    updating ssh

updating ssh Thanks Colin I think I've got it: that would only be relevant for my interacting with the Mac from outside. Which is never. updating ssh Thanks bluzfanmr1 Good to know it is reversible.

    updating ssh

Hello Small net builders I have been using the MacOS terminal for my (very limited) ssh interactions with the router. Upon opening the terminal, it now displays a message offering to update to zsh, which I am tempted to do. Should I update it or not? Am I at risk of losing prior...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Thank you. My VPN ISP is rather fussy when it comes to config, so I will stick to the 'Accept DNS Configuration=EXCLUSIVE' you suggest. I am using rules-based selective routing to only direct certain clients through the tunnel. As I understand it, this takes precedence over the router's general...

Unbound unbound_manager (Manager/Installer utility for unbound - Recursive DNS Server)

Greetings from another profane. I am attracted to @Martineau 's work on Unbound integration (thank you) for, chiefly, its reported improved DNS resolution features. I also happen to use a commercial OpenVPN service for geoblock reasons, and I should be grateful if some knowledgeable member of...

    Access Point and ethernet ports

No, I had not. Thank you for the link (by Mr Higgins himself, back in '08, now we're talking!) :) I will also do the exercise you suggest - and refresh my combinatorics-: 4 ports, 2 clients. Hmmm... That was way before Tim's post... Cheers

    Access Point and ethernet ports

Good evening I have set up an AC87U as Access Point, connected by cable (WAN port) to the main router. I configured it using the default AP setup mode offered by the GUI. The wireless (distinct SSIDs from main) is working fine, and so is one wired client. Now, as I tried to plug in a second...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Of course it is... Thanks for correcting me and apologies for the confusion.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Try to ssh into the router before the upgrade, then run nvram get DHCP_staticlist This will pull the list of clients and internal IPs. You would then copy/paste that into a text file. Post upgrade, ssh again into the router and run nvram set DHCP_staticlist=[there you paste back in whatever was...

Guest WiFi security in AP mode

Evening all I am currently trying to extend wifi coverage in my house. Initial thought was to go down the following route: RT AC88U (parent)<=RJ45 Cable=>RT AC87U (AP) but... as much as I like the security a Guest Network offers (IoT and stuff) under Wireless Router mode, I take from you gents'...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Your post is interesting and, I agree, probably off topic (so why do I reply? sorry moderators...). Can we get less latency without resorting to using more power? So far HFT and the likes have gone the old route: get your machines as close as you can to the exchange... It took 200+ years to...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Thank you, I think I got it. I will dirty upgrade, flashing 384.13 without 'erasing JFFS at next reboot', get the dhcp_staticlist and dhcp_hostnames stored somewhere, do all the clean install work, and then re set both of them (and the rest of the config), under a clean 384.13 mod.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.13 is now available

Thank you Eric for the new release. I was about to flash it, but one of your comments had me puzzled: Should I infer from it that flashing .13 and then restore JFFS from previous (.12) version would generate the 'dhcp_staticlist' and 'dhcp_hostnames' files in the NVRAM ? Sorry for the dumb...

    firewall-start - tentative script

Yes that is the material I use. There are currently 30-odd cloud storage servers, but some may be added/deleted along the way, which could be tedious to maintain. That's why I thought of a script looping through a list that could be easily compared to current set up and amend it as necessary...
