Anyone with an RT-AX88U having issues with ExpressVPN?

Wow, approaching X86 performance on ARM with the crypto extensions! That's impressive! This is the primary reason I switched from my AC5300 to the AX88U (the former's dual-core CPU doesn't support the above-mentioned extensions), I couldn't stream 4K video over OpenVPN from either Netflix or...

    [384.13] AX88U and AC5300: Can't complete AIMESH setup

I finally gave up and just used the AC5300 as a Repeater. The link rate isn't bad at around 1462.5 Mbps and it's pretty steady. The old repeater was usually around ~1000 Mbps (give or take 100). The best thing is that the wireless backhaul is through the secondary WiFi radio so it frees up...

Anyone with an RT-AX88U having issues with ExpressVPN?

I wanted to thank the OP for this thread since I was having trouble with connecting my AX88U to my VPN provider, as well. For some reason, the scripts didn't work out of the box (as they used to on my AC5300). Here are the results for Xentrk (they seem skewed?): ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AX88U...

    [384.13] AX88U and AC5300: Can't complete AIMESH setup

I guess there is an issue on my side. Yes, the 2nd 5 GHz channel is used for the backhaul. Just as well, because it doesn't get used much otherwise. Thanks for letting me know this works on your end. I started with both routers from scratch (reset both to factory settings) so not sure what the...

    [384.13] AX88U and AC5300: Can't complete AIMESH setup

Hello all, I am having a heck of a time trying to set up the AX88 as the main router and my old but faithful AC5300 as the AIMESH node. The AX88U is running the latest Merlin while the AC5300 was switched from Merlin 384.13 to the latest Asus firmware (I believe that's recommended by Merlin)...

NAS with SSD and 10gbe, or not?

Yeah maybe you're right. I shouldn't sell that Amazon CPU short. I was really thinking more in terms of compatibility (Intel vs. ARM). My requirements are REALLY simple, speedy transfer of multiple files at the same time and low power usage along with a small footprint. The box has 3.5"...

NAS with SSD and 10gbe, or not?

Thanks, L&LD. That's a good find but the ARM CPU (which lowers the price) isn't something I am looking at. Deepcuts: I'd love to build something based on FreeNAS and ZFS but I can't find any mobo with 3 or more M2 or NVME slots. Otherwise, you're limited to ITX builds with SATA drives. I...

NAS with SSD and 10gbe, or not?

Agreed. You could do a Ryzen-based FreeNAS (diskless) build in way less than a grand and that gives you 8 solid cores. I like the fact that QNAP continuously updates their OS but that's not worth the upgrade price premium.

NAS with SSD and 10gbe, or not?

Is there a NAS that takes either m.2 drives or 2.5" drives only (to keep the size small) and ALSO have 10G? I have been unable to find such a beast, at least in the QNAP lineup. Looking to replace my aging Atom-based TS-469 Pro. Edit: I did see the 882ST3 but that's running a 6-series CPU...

Is there a way to migrate static IPs from the older Merlin firmware to NG?

My bad, I did search before I posted. Thanks for the search tip.

Is there a way to migrate static IPs from the older Merlin firmware to NG?

Howdy, long time Merlin user. I want to migrate to the NG firmware (still stuck on 380.70) but I have about a 100 or so IPs defined in the static pool via DHCP reservations. Is there a way to migrate them since you can't do a dirty upgrade?

    stunnel??

Bump. Reviving this dead thread and hoping someone can answer it four years on :) Edit: Found this relatively easy tutorial using entware (in case someone comes looking this thread comes up first in Google).

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.59 is now available

Did a standard 'dirty' upgrade over .58. No issues. Thanks, Merlin. Sorry to ask here but is there a way to import static hosts from a dnsmasq.conf file? I don't want to recreate static reservations for 40 plus hosts!

    ASUS RT-AC5300

No bugs on my end either and I really don't remember the last time I ran a stock OS on any of my routers (maybe ten or so years). This is the first in a decade or so. However, Tim is right. This won't cure your dead spots.

    ASUS RT-AC5300

Try as I might, I can't get the OpenVPN client to work with my VPN provider, there's very little configuration changes you can make in the web-based GUI. On a separate note, does anyone know how I can make the dnsmasq.conf stick? Do I need to use the 'add' file under jffs? I have a list of 70...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

Regardless of the fact that the specs match the AC88U, they should still send you another unit. Whether you choose to support it or not is entirely up to you.

    ASUS RT-AC5300

This. The man knows what he is talking about. Having said that, I foolishly pulled the trigger on the new 5300 (when what I was really considering was the AC88 or 3100). Darn, what was I thinking! Only saving grace would be to get Merlin's firmware on this. I can't believe Asus can't be...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

I am sure it's been asked but, Merlin, what are your plans for the AC5300? When will we see your update? For me, the most important component is the OpenVPN client. I know the stock Asus build doesn't have it. Thanks.

    Asus RT-AC3200 issues and impressions

Merlin, can we expect your firmware update sometime in March?

Netgear R7000 - anyone tried VPN client yet?

Unlikely actually, those guys are focused on the OS more than a component of it. I have read the entire thread and I have almost a decade's worth of experience with DD-WRT and five years with OpenVPN on it. However, it's probably worth asking in the advanced networking forum for dd-wrt. I...
