Adding an AIMesh Node - why is this so hard?!?

This... I've found stock on nodes and Merlin on main has always been successful for me.

    Router trouble RT-AX88U

Power gremlins? When was the power supply last changed? Is it the OE or an aftermarket? This is pretty non-specific, works sometimes, sometimes not. I've had these types of odd failures that were fixed with a new PS, even when the current one still 'worked'.

    Thank You @RMerlin

As commented by others here, the only reason I continue to use Asus routers is because of your efforts and this forum's activity. Thank you @RMerlin and to you, members of this forum. Not much, but a cup of coffee or a beer, or just for fun!

[WAN feature request] GT-AXE16000 use 2.5G port as LAN and use 2 1GB ports for dual wan

I'm currently doing this on an AX-88U with built-in functions. But - I'm not changing the WAN to a LAN port, instead Link Agg to Lan port 4 per built in options: And, In the past I used to run LAN Link Agg on Lan Ports 1 and 2 to an Ubuntu server, again per built in options: These worked...

    RT-AX88U with 1gb Community Fibre

The 930mb limit on 1gb is prob the overhead of the 1gb WAN port. You might be able to eeek out a little more if your modem has a second ethernet port and the option to perform channel bonding from the ont to your AX88U. If yes, you can set the AX88U to WAN channel bonding (Link Agg) with Port 4...

3 story house approx 5K sq ft with limited ethernet wiring

About 20 years ago I built a 5k sq ft house, 2 stories plus basement. I had 13 'full pulls' wired at the time. For those that haven't done this, a full pull back then was 2x CAT5 and 2X Coax in a single low-voltage wall outlet (CAT6/6A wasn't a thing, then). When I sold it a couple of years ago...

3 story house approx 5K sq ft with limited ethernet wiring

Simplify your life, this isn't a decision you have to make immediately. Drop a MoCA on each floor coupled to a mesh forming a 2gb backhaul to your main router. You'd have an AP on every floor. Even a little RP-AX58 mesh node could suffice backhauled to the main through MoCA.

Looking for a router that runs off 5V and has openvpn client support

Second this. Currently on sale at Amazon. Very flexible configuration options. 2.5gb WAN port, configurable to LAN, second 1gb LAN port.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 is now available

Firstly, Welcome to the Forum! I know this is really simple reply - but have you double checked that you downloaded the AX88U PRO version and not the older AX88U version? They aren't the same. Since you're a long-time Merlin user I'd assume you would have gotten the right one, but you never know.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 is now available

Am I just seeing things or is the web interface in 388.6 snappier than the 388.5 release? I noticed on first installation and decided to wait a couple of days for RAM to get fully occupied, but it still seems faster. Regardless, another very nice release, @RMerlin. Thank you.

    [AX88U] Link bonding

This works. I've done this with my AX88U in the past, several firmware versions ago. I have not done this with the .388 branch. If you note in my sig I have LACP between my modem and router, and at the time I had both WAN aggregation modem to router and then channel bonding AX88U router to...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 Beta is now available

In addition to the cable suggested above, I've always had better success by running Merlin on the main and OE firmware on the node. I don't run mesh atm and have not tried this with the 388 branch, but worth a try if you've tried everything else.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.6 Beta is now available

Also AX88U... dirty upgrade from A1, dirty upgrade A1 from 388.5... no random reboots..

    AiMesh Node fails to install

Second... I've found that stock on the node works 'better' for adding mesh to the main router running Merlin.

    Comcast wants me to upgrade

See my signature... Comcast 1g/20. They overprovision about 20%. So with an older Netgear modem capable of WAN Agg and my older AX88U also capable of WAN Agg, I'm able to pull ~ 1.1+g through the 1g ports on the AX88U. Normally thats about 850-900mb, considering handling overhead on the 1g...
