    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Thanks. I'm sure those have screamingly fast throughput and capability to effortlessly run AiMesh, VPNs, traffic montoring and many other bells and whistles thanks to the 2GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM, and 4x4 wireless. But they also consume 45W and are expensive to buy in the UK (£237). Is...

    Upgrade time ... RT-AC66U-B1 to RT-AX68U?

Objectives: to retire / replace Wi-Fi 4 APs and replace main router with AX (Wi-Fi 6) device that can run Asuswrt-Merlin, without significantly increasing power consumption. I'm aware that Wi-Fi 7 is coming, but remaining one step behind is okay by me at the moment. Stability, security, support...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

I'm curious to know if anything is written to flash when the router reboots. Repeatedly writing to flash memory does wear it out eventually. But just reading from flash does not significantly impact MTBF as far as I know. Rebooting will surely place very little stress on the other components...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Two minutes does seem a bit hasty, but this raises the question: how long does it have to be working without issue before "seems to work fine" becomes worth reporting? Does the forum only want to hear about when there are issues, with no reports of "everything seems to work fine"? Personally...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.12 is now available for AC models

Dirty update via web UI from 386.11 to 386.12 on RT-AC66U B1 two weeks ago. Last clean install was 386.9. Running in router mode without any observed issues. I wish my ISP was as reliable. Thank you @RMerlin

    RT-AC66U B1 - fixable or not?

Thermal pads of various sizes, thickness, and thermal conductivities can be found on eBay. I've never taken my RT-AC66U B1 apart so I can't advise what size and thickness is needed. If you look at the temperature graph in the administration tab, does the CPU temperature go very high very...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 beta is now available

That sounds REALLY useful. I must have missed that feature. How would I back up the devces (DHCP allocations?) and icons?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.11 is now available for AC models

Dirty update from 386.10 to 386.11 on RT-AC66U B1. 386.10 NVRAM usage: 61733 / 65536 bytes 386.11 NVRAM usage after f/w update: 61669 bytes 386.11 NVRAM usage after clear_vpnclients.sh: 59327 bytes All seems to be OK. Thanks @RMerlin

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.10 is now available for AC models

RT-AC66U-B1 dirty update from 386.9 to 386.10 (previous factory reset at 386.8 to 386.9). NVRAM usage remains similar after update at 61733 / 65536 bytes. Operating in router mode I have many DHCP reservations but no OpenVPN configured. Nightly reboot remains configured, just in case things go...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

Oh how I wish before I did the factory reset on my RT-AC66U-B1 I'd come across this gem of a guide to NVRAM in the FAQ, written by @RMerlin. Using SSH to get a text-based backup of the NVRAM settings and even saving it to a USB disk sounds very useful. Might be useful to others short on NVRAM...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

Thanks @bennor I'll keep that in mind. Users report no issues with their devices routed via 386.9. NVRAM went up by 1 byte after the nightly reboot. System log has several entries such as this: Jan 14 14:25:48 kernel: nvram: consolidating space! I was looking for the "regularly flush caches"...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

After reading the useful tips above from @bennor I decided to do the factory restore/reset on my RT-AC66U B1. After many hours of bad language and grumpiness, especially after enabling HTTPS login near what I thought would be the end of the process then getting locked out due to a certificate...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

I just noticed that the low NVRAM warning is working. A flashing alarm bell icon in the webgui gives the following message: Your router is running low on free NVRAM, which might affect its stability. Review long parameter lists (like DHCP reservations), or consider doing a factory default reset...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

Dirty-ish update from 386.7_2 to 386.9 on RT-AC66U B1. Power switch restart before and after f/w upgrade, but no factory reset. I'm using router mode with 3 wireless guest networks and two non-guest wireless networks. There are around 20 DHCP address reservations. Not using any VPN or any...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 is now available for all models

Dirty update RT-AC66U B1 from 386.5_2 to 386.7_2 a few days ago and all is fine and dandy.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

Manual dirty update from 386.5 to 386.5_2 (keeping same settings) working nicely on RT-AC66U-B1. Thanks RMerlin.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 is now available

RT-AC66U_B1 succesfully updated from 386.4 to 386.5 manually installed over 386.4 without resetting any settings. The update went smoothly but a CRC error in syslog caught my eye on the first reboot after the update: May 5 06:05:04 kernel: Creating 2 MTD partitions on "brcmnand": May 5...

AC68U/Merlin 386.2_6 time scheduling working intermittently only?

Go to LAN --> Switch Control then set NAT Acceleration to disabled. Alternatively, there is a link to this from LAN --> Switch control in AiProtection --> Parental Controls --> Time Scheduling The link is underlined in the note in yellow text on the Time Scheduling tab. Time scheduling seems to...
