Backing Up a Network. I am confused

For offstie backups, Tapes are the way to go. Also, don't let 40Gb fool you with tapes. With a good tape/software backup solution, you can easily get 6x and 8x compression out of your data. We squeeze around 6+ TB's of data onto a single 800Gb tape, which is a lot.. considering.

    VoIP phone systems

See, that's the problem now.. Avaya came back with a god-awfuly huge system.. that's three (THREE 3 3 3) times our budget. Shoretel is chiming in at half of our budget.. over half a million less than Avaya. We get Cisco's quote next week.. Oh yeah, and the Avaya quote didn't include...

    Gig and 10/100 NIC setup?

I currently use uTorrent on my "Storage" server, it's handy to have it away from your actual computer. I'm one for keeping things clean, so it makes it eiser to deal with. As for using dual ports, some of the newer chipsets (Like the nVidia 790i Ultra boards) come with software that will...

    Dual WAN router suggestions?

I would be mindful using GSM as a network failover, as a lot of wireless providers are starting to crack down on people doing that. Recent an AT&T client was charged over $30,000 in a single bill for "misusing" his to run his home network. These days, you get a 5Gb/month cap, which isn't...

high performance NAS: Windows Server 2003?

If you're set on going with Microsoft Server, I would go with 2008 SBS, it will give you the best file search times. As for Linux/Samba. I really can't say, I'm not that great with it.. I'm an MCSE, so Linux takes a backseat for know how, sadly. I can't really recomend a NAS OS either, as...

    Onboard vs PCIe RAID cards?

These days, nothing really, they both use the PCI-Express bus, so you won't really see speed diffs. Unless you pay an arm and a leg for a good server-type card, it's still software RAID, so it's the exact same thing built into your motherboard. in the long run, it will save you money, and a...

    SIP over MS ICA?

You mean ISA? Doing a quick search it seems like a NATing issue, but I'm not sure. Are you connecting from outside in, or vice-versa? We currently use SIP trunks that don't enter via the Internet, so I've never delt with ISA and SIP traffic -_-.

    Firewall and FTP

I guess I should add, we're connecting to them, (We're the client, they're the server). We get this:

high performance NAS: Windows Server 2003?

You might want to consider using a Linux server with Samba/LDAP. This will give you basic login, as well as share permissions on the file server. I wouldn't go with 2003 for just file serving/ftp, as it's really not the greatest at either. If you reall want to go this rout, I would go for...

    Firewall and FTP

We recently went from using our ISP's firewall, to an internal Cisco ASA device, when we did this, all of our file transfers broke. After doing a bit of tinkering, I figured out using PASV allowed us to connect out. With that said, one of our venders only allows ACTIVE FTP connections...

Email server (More software than hardware)

I love to thinker, what can I say! I have a static IP (12 Mb down, 1.5mb up Cable), and my ISP doesn't block port 25, so that part's not a problem. My home runs off it's own domain name for ease of access to everything I need.

Email server (More software than hardware)

I'm looking for a good home e-mail server software. I currently use Exchange 2007, which is an amazing product.. but a bit overkill for three/four e-mail clients (It's using 3.5Gb of Ram while doing /nothing/). I'm looking for something that will run on windows if possible. I would like...

    VoIP phone systems

We couldn't sell OpenSource to the executives, so it looks like Avaya, Cisco, and Shoretel are our main choices. ShoreTel has the lead right now, however Avaya has a good offering. We're waiting to see what avaya will cost us, however.. Still waiting on Cisco's responce as well, they just...

    PIX 501 Setup. Getting there.....

I still like hosting my own. I never was one for finding PC's via IP addy. I currently use Active Directory to manage my home DNS, while using 2003 DHCP. This also functions as a web Name Server for several webpages I host (Mostly backend/subdomains). WinBIND also makes a DNS service...

What's a good router these days?

Sorry it's taken me a while to respond to this. Yes, it will do all of the standard routing protocols and then some. I wouldn't expect it to be an "amazing" router, as it is a security device, but it will do everything a home user would want, and then some. The only thing it lacks, that...

    Ftp/ftps

Well, I seem to have solved my own problem, setting the connections to PASV (Passive), they are now able to connect. *Stops banging had on desk*

    Ftp/ftps

Over the past weekend, we changed from an ISP hosted firewall solution, to an internal firewall. In doing so, our outside IP address changed. On a daily basis, we do quite a few file transfers via every protocol known to man, however FTP/FTPS connections to a few venders are failing with the...

    PIX 501 Setup. Getting there.....

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm a bit rusty on PIX commands, most are along the same as the ASA, so it's an easy guess >.>. Most of the time, if you can see things via IP address, it's a DNS issue, just a matter of finding said DNS issue :).

    PIX 501 Setup. Getting there.....

I think this is your problem, if you're using a private address staticed on the outside, the inside interface won't recieve DNS info. Try this: enable dhcpd dns 4.2.2.3 interface inside write config That is a very very well known DNS server that stays up constantly, I always use it...

SSL based VPN for embedded routers?

It might be possible to install SSL Explorer on a m0n0wall PC, though I would be sure to back up what you're currently using. I used SSL Explorer for a long time, up until I bought a Cisco ASA for my home. I loved the service, though it might be a bit complicated to set up/use, it works...
