Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

I actually been eyeing the Asus Ally and may get it towards end of year or sometime next year. The hardware is rock solid and I would recommend the model with the Z1 Extreme AMD APU in it. The software side is still a work in progress but I am hearing Microsoft is working on a Windows 11...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

I remember setting them up when I worked at a now defunct PC store. The Z906 their spiritual successor with some refinements. Some of the best speakers of their times, before hardware audio started to become a thing of the past and helped in retrospect kill off surround sound speakers. Only a...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

For Me, I have been sticking with some paticular brands. I was at one point all in with Corsair since my most recent PC build, but as I have been recently upgrading hardware overtime, I took a look back at the everyday hardware as well, and was using a Corsair mechanical K70 Rapidfire wired...

I did see them speak out and apologize for the mess and original communication and shadyness. That new Bios was sooner than expected. Glad to see the rather fast response and fix.

I am weary of Gigabyte quality more so with PSUs, but software they suck no matter the product. Corsair power supplies have been stable and reliable. I have an RM850X modular Power supply for my Son's system and I have an RM1000X for my system and they both are stable reliable PSUs with a great...

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

I tried Opnsense and actually prefer it Overall, but I am currently back in Pfsense due to more stable drivers in Pfsense 2.6. The latest 2 releases of Opnsense seemed to introduce buggy NIC drivers. I may check them out again at a later point.

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

I hear no noise from my upgraded Pfsense server but being in a Network rack cabinet, I will hear the 2 exhaust fans in the cabinet if I was close and also have the closet doors open to where the cabinet is. Temps have been great for this 8C/16T CPU given ambient Temps plus being on 3rd floor...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

I agree wholeheartedly with what you said. Quality dropped all around on nearly the entire tech industry. I think part of it has to do with consumer demand and meeting a time schedule that is more aggressive than before while trying to cut cost down. Adding to Microsoft's case, the consumer...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

The 1.0.0.7A, which is the updated BIOS with Patch A addresses the issues. The only issue still with the Patch A, is the DDR5 Speed is still limited. There is plans for a Patch B already in the works and Patch C is also planned. OpenSIL has nothing to do with the buggy AGESA code, and also will...

Looks like Asus has rolled out the first patched Bios with AGESA 1.0.0.7(A) in it for affected motherboards and Patch B already in the works. That was a little quicker than expected, but good news https://wccftech.com/asus-rolls-out-amd-agesa-1-0-0-7a-bios-am5-motherboards-patch-b-already-in-works/

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

Since we are speaking of gaming, I have been experimenting over the last few days and have at the moment retired my Windows Server 2022 gaming server and NAS and transition to Unraid with a Lancache docker running to build a game ache of sorts. It was tricky but I enjoyed figuring the puzzle...

You are correct. AMD stated there was issues with 1.0.0.7 and are working on a new update supposedly 1.0.9.0. May now be more towards middle to end of this month for a proper fix.

I believe the new AGESA firmware update is to address issues on the non-X3D parts as well from what I understand.

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

Good news. AMD released a statement about the root cause to the burn up issue. Looks like too much voltage from the board being sent to the CPU. The new AGESA update has imposed limitors to how much voltage will go safely to the CPU rails. Also looks like they are prepared to take care of any...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

Reliability is there on AMD, trust me as I have been using them in both my server and my gaming and multimedia systems. The problem is their partners got a little crazy. Because AMD has the gaming crown and has been delivering on performance each round with Zen, the board partners pushed the...

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

A little rusty but still quite good at solving puzzles and making things work. Network is no different. Been playing with and experimenting since probably the very first DIY network kits launched at Best Buy and you had a network hub before switches became a thing in 99/2000 time frame lol...

Intel still has issues with their CPUs and the Hybrid design that in the 13th Gen they are just getting a hang of, but still rely on Microsoft for software updates to the CPU schedular. AMD had lingering issues with 1st Gen Zen as it was brand new architecture from the ground up. There was also...

Breaking Dad's Big Bad Gaming Discussion - For all things to do with PC Gaming !

AMD is quite stable especially now as the chipsets are now closely worked on in conjunction with the CPU/APUs. Have never had a problem for the most part. Same can be true of Intel as well. Biggest issue with Intel is that most of their architectures sacrifice power efficiency to match AMD's...

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

I am not looking for a router replacement, just software. However, since posting this, I went back to the drawing board and installed pfsense and stabilized my network again.

    Alternative to pfsense/Opnsense

Yeah for me the Q6600 was sitting around and great for the purpose of launching this project, but I found it inadequate to handle the full network needs plus the heat and power the chip ate up was not worth keeping in production. The replacement is a Ryzen 1700 8C/16T chip but more power...
