    Move from N66U to AC86U or AX68U or AX86U?

IMHO it might be time to lock the thread, as I would suggest that it has run it's course and the relevant points were made. Just my two cents....

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

Ok then, I stand corrected. Asus is clearly trying harder than I realized, and more than most manufacturers do (at least in my experience) in regards to DST.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

Personally, I wouldn't bother even telling Asus about the DST issues: it has become clear that many manufacturers (Asus included) don't even bother trying to correlate time zones with (likely) corresponding DST start and end dates, as those are like shifting sands in many parts of the world...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

As @Jeffrey Young mentioned, I simply took a screenshot of that page while still running 386.4 and compared it to the post-upgrade version of the page on 386.5 (Alpha or Beta, no difference as well).

baffled. losing 2.4ghz from update to 386.5 Beta

Of note, not everyone is experiencing issues with recent releases for the RT-AC86U, myself included. The 386.5 releases for this router (in both Alpha and Beta state) use the same wireless driver as the 386.4 release, so the "breakdown" is unlikely to come from there. It has been quite a while...

    386.5 Alpha1?

I wouldn't get too overly excited: for any of us that already installed the 386.5 Alpha 2, I don't see any changes on Github in the less than 72 hours since the release of that version. Yes, support was completed for the new GT-AX11000, but if your model was already included in Alpha 2, there...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.5 Beta is now available

I haven't experienced this issue, but I can confirm that the wireless driver for the RT-AC86U has not changed from 386.4 to any of the 386.5 versions.

    386.5 Alpha1?

Thanks, I stand corrected. Odd that Asus has chosen to pass it along to RMerlin even before releasing it on their own as a factory release.

    386.5 Alpha1?

Really? Has he finally received a new GPL for the RT-AC86U? If so, that is great news, but it seems unlikely, as we still haven't seen Asus drop a new factory compiled firmware for this model in about 3 months.

Diversion not blocking ads - what did I do??

You are testing with what sort of device? If mobile, check that you really are using your home wifi connection (not accidentally turned off, etc), which would put you back on mobile data (unfiltered, ie. - with ads). If testing on a laptop or desktop, make sure you aren't using a browser that is...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Hmm...not sure how one could achieve this "have all that traffic routed through the DoT server" (emphasis on "the" server, singular), when using Unbound on the router as a recursive DNS solution that reaches out to many DNS servers. Maybe if using Unbound simply as a substitute for dnsmasq and...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Yes, I just ran these tests yesterday, and came to essentially the same conclusions: I run Unbound in recursive DNS server mode, and my results would fluctuate wildly between green, yellow and (mostly) red, regardless of any tweaks to various settings as discussed in this thread. I think this...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

I remember this changover, but have never understood how this change was done "for improved reliability". Anyone care to comment on pros and cons here?

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker v4.2.x (see new thread for 4.3.x)

Got it, yeah, I'm in the same boat. There are potential workarounds that would solve this: Chromecast from a laptop using UBlock is one way, or screen mirroring from a phone running things like NewPipe (available through FDroid), but even I don't bother on the rare occasions I look at YouTube on...

Tutorial How to monitor DNS traffic in real-time

Doesn't the router need to do a basic plain insecure DNS lookup to get the proper time before any of the more secure methods (DOT, DOH, Unbound,....) can work? That might explain the brief connection(s) upon startup. It seems to me that this was always the reason to include the (simple) DNS...

Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker v4.2.x (see new thread for 4.3.x)

YouTube ad-blocking has always been experimental at best: as has been extensively discussed previously, DNS based blocking will never be as effective as browser based blocking (UBlock Origin, etc...) for this. Most have found that trying to do this blocking on the router to be only moderately...

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46065

Ah yes, thanks for reminding me, I need to update my signature again. The RT-AC68P is now being used by my son as a conventional router/access point in a different location entirely (it has been that way for about the last six months). He makes no adjustments, I do all administration remotely...

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46065

Good guess, but not in this case, I use manually locked channels on both bands, and those haven't changed in months.

Release ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46065

Huh, my experience is less than optimal on the 5Ghz wireless band with this firmware. Frequent connection drops to a (nearby) recent HP laptop, even after true cold reboots of both the router and laptop, when there were none on the last few previous factory Asus firmware releases. Yes, no other...

    Isolate IP cameras
