Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Just to clarify for the group... I think this statement is correct when there are at least (one or more) AX devices still connected. But if you are the 1st AX-device to try & connect at 160MHz... -the router will display: DFS State: PRE-ISM Channel Availability Check (CAC) -for 60 seconds + What...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

I am VERY-MUCH looking forward to seeing (if/when/how-quickly) my phone will re-establish a 160MHz connection when I arrive home after-work... EDIT: if I'm understanding correctly & I can remember to TURN-OFF my WiFi or PUT my phone into airplane mode BEFORE I approach my house. I would...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Hence I'm at work (With My Pixel-7) so... my only AX-device is no-longer connected to my Home router. I just connected (remotely) into our RT-AX86U via Open VPN AND...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Perhaps it displays "idle" after it gets booted from any detected radar, & stays as such until successfully completing a timeout condition?

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Thanks for the clarification @RMerlin & I'm fairly certain I read that it has to vacate for 30Mins

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Or perhaps maybe what is most commonly misunderstood is... We actually can have 160MHz wide AC = WiFi-5 without DFS Perhaps it is the 160MHz wide AX = WiFi-6 that requires DFS ??? Man my Head Hurts, I need a Strong Drink... Merry Christmas Everyone PS... And despite these recent settings (being...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

@Ripshod I guess what I'm struggling with most is... (How something should work -VS- What is actually going on) In my case the following still functions within my house (but according to everything I've read) wouldn't the LEFT portion of my 160MHz be in uncharted frequency territory???

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

100% agree with @hancox & MOST of what @Morris suggested above rings true (Excellent networking tips BTW). Morris's description of 160 wide channels is how I thought 160MHz should work & fairly consistent with almost everything I had researched & read. Except after reading these forums & now...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Not sure if you caught all of my theories but I was really starting to suspect DFS as well. However with @kernol & his certainty of the possibility of functional 160MHz... I just enabled the 160MHz Checkbox & selected: 20/40/80/160MHz Channel Bandwidth, Control Channel=Auto(Currently on 36)...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

I'm not so certain we currently have any WiFi-6 devices in our household (I had one but It's definitely broken), although I'm in the process of upgrading my phone. But at one time (on the older firmware) I thought I did observe160MHz working properly. However, It just seemed rather illogical to...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

That is very cool (& impressive) + I see by your signature: you're using TWO identical RT-AX88U with one running Merlin's 388.1 & the other being a Node with what must be stock. So obviously you've checked the _ Enable 160 MHz box... But I should also ask: -For channel bandwidth are you using...

Asus rt-ax86u 5ghz band crashing with new firmware when downloading

Unfortunately, the more I learn about WiFi... the more I don't understand. 160MHz in particular. I'm not quite sure how the router could possibly be in 160MHz & 80MHz modes at the same time. I do understand how the router can adjust to different PHY transmission speeds on a per client basis. But...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

That makes sense, thanks for the explanation & all your hard work.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Is it deemed non-essential to ever need to format a UBIFS partition or maybe you are still trying to figure out how exactly to implement that option?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

OMG [Facepalm-self] & @dbell also a BIG thanks. Sooo... apparently it's STILL within the recent firmware(s). But somehow I completely missed noticing the ENTIRE System Settings link. I swear since the death of standardized application task bars I miss more settings than I care to admit.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

@ColinTaylor Thanks for the correction, appreciated. @aex.perez I think you missed my point & I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to (show/tell) me. I certainly do see a successful hardwired Ethernet connection between the RT-AX88U into TWO different RT-AX86U Nodes highlighted one...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

@aex.perez Interesting observation (I'm just going from my memory) but didn't the older AiMesh firmware(s) use to allow us to actually set the Wired Ethernet backhaul? The newer firware allows: Auto & 5G My Point is... Auto would still be inclusive of radio AKA WiFi-Mesh (Good intent would be...

@skeal Thank you for your post (https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-388-1-is-now-available-for-all-supported-wifi-6-models.82084/post-808618) It forced me to re-research & clarify a-few of my own WiFi misunderstandings. What I was missing was... Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS)...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Whooah Cool Stuff thanks... Perhaps this functionality is actually what got messed up via the more recent GPL? I just wish I had seen it before my recent outbursts above... LOL But it would be nice to know to what extent Asus is utilizing this technology EDIT: After a closer read... it seems...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

@skeal Sorry I just realized (I misunderstood your point) Yes if using 160Mhz & DSF you will always be booted as required by law. But with WiFi there are many misconceptions (& I struggle with them also). Main One = Over Lapping SSID is not actually all that bad. With electronics & wifi in...
