Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Certain individuals became somewhat irate when I hinted at 160Mhz being a contributing factor. But in Reality, It was the users of the 160Mhz whom were saying these more recent firmware(s) had broken their previously acceptable 160Mhz higher speed throughput. So honestly... I shy'd away from...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

LOL, well apparently there's no "U" in TEAM... But glad you're happy with your 24th of July firmware

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

That would make even more sense (Thank you for clarifying, I'll try to edit my post above). A channel change on the 2.4-band would manifest similarly. @Kingp1n : I was specifically referring to: Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 & from what I've seen there has been a lot more of the RT-AX86U WiFi...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

There seems to be a growing consensus the culprit for "MOST" of the recent WiFi disconnects is actually the setting of any Control Channel to Auto So... Don't. Meanwhile just pick the last control channel selected, or choose a channel that seems clear (maybe verify with a Wifi App) But this...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Thanks for your honesty & the tip... It seems I have more learning to do

    Beta [Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin for RT-AX58U_V2

I trust that what you say is correct as you seem to have an eye for the specifics. Are you saying that (throughout all these years & different router models & firmware) If connected into two different ISP no asus router can actually fail-over successfully to the other?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

@RMerlin the recent post via @Groslol got me thinking... What is the expected behavior for the existing connected clients when the router suddenly changes channels? I'd guess the router should be able to signal which channel it's switching onto & hopefully the client(s) will follow. Grosolol...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Thank you for the added details, hopefully they will aid in narrowing down a cause.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I do think this was a very sincere attempt to assist others & find a cause or culprit but... -I do not recall 160MHz enabled as being a Default IMO there is too many of these Auto settings all stacked together... Auto this... & auto that... & when it doesn't work quite as expected, it's hard to...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

@JCompagner Thank you for submitting such a detailed report. Within the details I think (perhaps you touched on something). You mentioned the first RT-AX86U node as being connected via the 2.5G Port during initial setup. From my personal experiences with AiMesh on RMerlin & lesser node...

Run Merlin or Factory on AiMesh nodes?

@Yarzy I cannot speak about running the latest firmware on multiple AX86U's (as I only have one) but it does sound like a minor cosmetic issue so far. @Keenan Logically the more differences in hardware between mesh components the more opportunity for incompatibilities. However I had read...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Sorry, I missed seeing your two RT-AX86U devices remained hardwired. These details were indicated within the Graphic screenshots. (But I hadn't previously expanded the images)

Run Merlin or Factory on AiMesh nodes?

The problem is mentioned here (Click on the spoiler for image): https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-388-1-is-now-available-for-all-supported-wifi-6-models.82084/post-806291 So (for the time being) I would recommend... Merlin=Main, but Stock=Node

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Just to clarify a few things... #1) Does It stay this way, Even after clearing your Web-Browsers cache & doing a refresh/reload? #2) When you set up your node... Did you (initially) plug it into the primary router via an ethernet cable, & then disconnect the node & relocate the AX86S afterwards...

Run Merlin or Factory on AiMesh nodes?

@Yarzy I think the best advice "formerly" was to have everything on RMerlin firmware. Except somewhat recently... it seems the non-AX routers will lag somewhat behind in terms of release-dates. In theory... Nodes are basically Centrally managed Access-Points. And Access-Points(typically) are...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Yet, your signature seems to say that you are NOT using a single RT-AX86U, nor at least one as a Node ??? (EDIT: to clarify... I think @kernol was talking specifically about the RT-AX86U)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

If you have the Channel bandwidth set at auto & you've enable 160MHhz... During bootup, the router has to scan for the DFS (Middle 5GHz channels) & verify they are clear... before enableing the channels (which takes more time). RESULT= "most-likely" observe the 2.4GHz SSID being available...

Thanks again @ColinTaylor -I don't know how you keep all this information straight in your head... Data keeps leaking out of mine

"Best" new router that supports Merlin?

I kept meaning to ask... was FaceHugger a deliberate Alien (Movie) reference ? (If so... Funny Stuff ;-)

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I'm just brainstorming so... thanks for looking. I had thought maybe the "Extended NSS" option would appear AFTER enabling 160MHz & disappear when 160MHz was turned off. But perhaps it's a router specific setting. Anyone know if "Extended NSS" (Under Wireless =>Professional) still exists within...
