Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

@snah001 Actually I think what MANY people keep misunderstanding is.. -Not all NAT is being disabled for Wireguard functionality. What becomes disabled is some of HARDWARE ACCELERATION meaning... (chips/integrated-circuits) built to offload (NAT-work) & free-up the router's CPU You can't change...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

flow cache must be disabled for cake to do it's thing EDIT: It's similar with most of the advanced features (ex. Wireguard) in that... The router can easily forward network data packets onto different network devices. BUT... if it has to deconstruct packets, make (changes/alter) them...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

You are twisting things... Asus is NOT dropping support of AC devices. But the differences in software/hardware are making it so they cannot coexist within the same development branch

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I'll let RMerlin or someone else more Knowledgeable take a look but, I suddenly see why... you Bang your Head, yikes.

Why does WireGuard slow down the entire WAN-LAN speed?

@RickGW Sorry I can't say for certain as (a quick google search) seemed to indicate that NAS uses TWO Intel Celeron J4125 which I thought was similar but after looking here... https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_celeron_j4125-vs-raspberry_pi_4_b_broadcom_bcm2711 Perhaps you are...

Why does WireGuard slow down the entire WAN-LAN speed?

@RickGW I think even a raspberry pi4 may not be enough processing power to approach 1G but you are on the right track... Think maybe closer to a low-power fan-less x86. @Mazz I'm trying to clarify things but your post is misleading as we were talking about routers where wireguard is enabled...

Why does WireGuard slow down the entire WAN-LAN speed?

While the "gist" of what degrub is saying above is close, it's not technically correct. I may regret attempting to clarify but I'll try... It is a portion of the Hardware Acceleration (Known as Flow Cache) that is preprogrammed into certain Broadcom chips which is not compatible with WireGuard...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

@RMerlin OMG I'm so excited... I feel like a kid before X-mas. Looking forward to flashing my RT-AX86U (hopefully this weekend). @BreakingDad I'm almost without words. WOW. Very cool. I'll turn 50 (this December) but couldn't agree more. The Wonderstuff albums: Eight Legged Grove...

I figured someone "else" among us... might know that obscure song & band. Or even just hit the PLAY Triangle on the bottom right to check it out. Perhaps it's a personality disorder, but for some reason... -If I can reference a song-line or two to convey my words... I'll often do so. It...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

@RMerlin So... perhaps I've miscounted but... if ASUS has decided they (can't or won't) upgrade any of the AC-series routers to 388, Isn't the RT-AX86U the only eligible router remaining? Just hoping it's soon. Upgrades used to come out so rapidly. But ever since Asus was forced to redo the...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

Perhaps I'm loosing track (as I don't have the Latest & Greatest) but I thought the number was closer to 350Mbps. To simplify the understanding... to use Wireguard on these BROADCOM based Asus Routers, Flow Cache is disabled, which basically handicaps the Max speed possible for all clients...

Yeah this wait for my AX86U source is slowly killing me, I've even resorted to working on my car. LOL

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

LOL I certainly can relate. But just a FYI... as you mentioned: You recently switched from using OVPN to Wireguard. (I've been playing with both, for quite a while but...) The main purpose of either in my case is to remote from the outside internet back into my LAN. Either option will work...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

I thought speed gains from runner where considered minimal & to establish any serious speed gains... HW acceleration relied on FlowCache. EDIT: Yep just checked on my AX86U the toggling Wireguard On/Off (On the Older firmware) toggles FC but doesn't muck with Runner.

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

While I certainly did enjoy the techno-babble exchange between @Nodens & @RMerlin. Very little people understand the (hardware/software) limitations of these Asus routers better than RMerlin. RMerlin already knows this & as @SomeWhereOverTheRainBow just reminded us: "... with these routers you...

AC68U - (UK - Vodafone, Cityfibre) only 300Mbps downstream on gigabit line

Confusing statement because, I asked you to test on a fast computer that was wired to the router & you said... "I'm actually not using the web gui but the entware Okla speed test app..." But wouldn't a speed test app be on your phone or some other Wifi device? But you also said... "I have hooked...

AC68U - (UK - Vodafone, Cityfibre) only 300Mbps downstream on gigabit line

The CPU (& associated hardware) of that Router is not fast-enough to display correct information within the Router's WebGUI. Plug in Your Fastest Computer via Ethernet to the router & Try a speed test from it's browser. Then Get back to us with the result. In short, that router cannot actually...
