    Client list never updates

When I hit "View List" of the connected clients from the GUI main menu, it seems to only show a static unchanging list of clients. Don't know what snapshot it chooses (i.e. startup?), but it never updates after the static list. It shows 17 currently connected. In my recent firmware update and...

Reset router, and now can't login

Rebooting the router fixed the Cox internet access. Tweaked things for the rest of the day to get all pieces back up and running. As of right now, everything customized back the way it was this morning, without the instability problems. The NVRAM error is gone and seems to be rock solid...

Reset router, and now can't login

Progress, but now a new problem. I have full control of the GUI and its passwords. Set all settings as per the way I want to configure it. Only problem and a key one, is that internet status says, "Your ISP's DHCP does not function properly." All my LAN configuration seems to be working, but...

Reset router, and now can't login

OK. Have control and logged in. Flashed 384.15 firmware again, rebooted. Now chose full reset to factory defaults and it is processing.

Reset router, and now can't login

Initially, I used the GUI entry for 'factory reset'. That yielded the current problem. Then I have pushed the button on the back for 15+ seconds.

Reset router, and now can't login

It's a legit router that's worked for 2+ years. In the "QIS wizard", it seems to get stuck at the Wireless Settings part of the Asus setup. Clicking "next" seems to have it spinning with nothing happening. Let it continue? Other ideas?

Reset router, and now can't login

I did a hard reset with the 384.15 firmware. At the login screen, admin/admin logs in. Brings me to a change login screen. If I change to anything, it brings me back to the login screen, where only admin/admin works, which brings me back to p/w change. Is there any way I can circumvent this...

JFFS workaround for SSH authorized keys?

After the upgrade to Merlin 384.15, I've had the "Your router is running low on free NVRAM" warning. My first thought was that the three SSH authorized keys I stored in Admin>System>Service were the main problem. I removed them and the warning message went away. Since I want the SSH keys...

    NAS recommendation

Currently, I'm using an external Seagate (ext4 format) on my RT-AC68U router (Asuswrt-Merlin). The forum folks have helped me format this setup and maintain it. There's been an intermittent problem with the external HD as my main source for video, and the solution seems to be hardware based...

    USB Hard Disk disconnect

Quick config info. Asus RT-AC68U, fw 384.10.2. I use a USB external Seagate HD, formatted in ext3 format. I use the router as a minor file server with the USB HD, and generally don't have issue ever. Working on the whole for at least a year. Over the past few months, I have found that...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

Home from shopping. It works!!! :D Here are the two final lines of my /etc/fstab //Asus/Media /mnt/Media cifs vers=2.0,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,credentials=/home/cavalli/.smbcredentials,x-systemd.automount 0 0 //Asus/Public /mnt/Public cifs...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

Aha! Ok, good! :D Not that it's good for me right now, but now the problem is in hand on your side. That will make my wife happy. She wants to take me shopping. Will turn on the NFS in the short term and put it back the way it was until the next round of testing. Thanks Colin! :D

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

The chown was already done through the recreated directory recreation. Did it anyway, and also did a chmod 777 on the wildcard, as requested. No success. pi@PIMC:/mnt/Media/zDL $ touch a touch: cannot touch 'a': Permission denied

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

Operated on my theory to no success. Moved data to temp locations. Deleted / recreated Media and Public, to get cavalli/root there. Moved data back in place. Mounted on RPi to no success. Oh well. Tried. ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U 384.9-0 Sat Feb 2 18:16:52 UTC 2019...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

FYI, when I was recreating the "Media" and "Public" directories, it's possible that I did it in Windows, and NOT in the GUI, which I suspect is potentially important. Didn't know that was a requirement, but with my newfound insight into all these permission issues, I see this possibility...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

Done. Not sure about the '1000' and 'has' portions, but maybe that's what you wanted to see. ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC68U 384.9-0 Sat Feb 2 18:16:52 UTC 2019 cavalli@Asus:/tmp/home/root# cd /mnt/Asus cavalli@Asus:/tmp/mnt/Asus# ls -l drwxrwxrwx 20 cavalli root 4096 Feb 18 09:40 Backup...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

AHA! You're right! Forest from the trees... Works with the credential option, but read only. Here's the line so far: sudo mount -t cifs //Asus/Media /mnt/Media -o "rw,vers=2.0,credentials=/home/cavalli/.smbcredentials" The mount works fine and /mnt/Media is readable. However, pi@PIMC:/mnt...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

VERY promising. :D For some reason, it was a disaster when it first "worked". It made unreasonable pauses, failed and the first 5-10 minutes were bad. Now it seems to be rock solid. Spent all night copying from the old NFS drive to the current Asus ext4 mount. Best news was that it worked...

    USB 3.0 HD write permissions

Done. The specific steps: 1-5. Done, no problem. 6. Step 8, no recommendation on has/!has journal. Chose has journal (because I saw tune2fs can undo that later). Named drive "Asus" on /dev/sda1 7. Rebooted/remounted automatically. Asus web server configuration: +USB Application *Media...
