[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Yes, I'm aware and AsusWRT is actually built on a Tomato base. But I thought maybe there's a lot more hardware-specific work that Asus and the forks have done to cater to the hardware and until John stops supporting my router I think I'm better off sticking with John's fork. Feel free to...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

But it's more generic like ddwrt and not targeted firmware like Merlin's. Surely it's not as performant as Merlin's or John's fork or have more specific security fixes.

I'm using 40E6 now and after some basic testing, works well on my N66U. Also no rendering issues when enabling LayoutNG on Vivaldi. Thank you, John.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Is anyone aware of any security vulnerabilities in this firmware or keeping a log of potential fixes when/if John returns or when someone cares to curate and compile a new fork? My router has always been stable with this firmware but I'm just worried about security issues, if any, after not...

Cable modem has issues when friends are over

I really don't think this is a router issue but I'll give it a shot. Only my router is slightly oc'd, and I'm not even sure if you can oc a modem, though don't think it'd have any use. Sorry I couldn't respond sooner; I had no internet access. Being the weekend's over and they're gone, it works...

Cable modem has issues when friends are over

To elaborate, I have no connectivity on the modem. Wifi is just fine, I can share files between PCs, connect to the router, etc. I just have no internet at the cable modem. To resolve, generally nothing works. The modem upstream/downstream stats tend to not look so well either but then again...

Cable modem has issues when friends are over

This doesn't seem intuitive but most of the time when I have internet/modem issues, it's when they're over. You'd think that it's give the router issues but my N66U seems fine and been stable since I've had it. Looking at my Motorola modem stats, it's not been great and on hot days my internet...

Replacing John won't be easy. Dude has mad skillz, as the youngins say. But thanks to him my router is still supported and working well.

Asus firmware has a very minimal linux kernel that's not equipped with usb wifi device drivers. That might be a pretty neat thing for a router to have so you could upgrade your wifi hardware but then again you'd have to upgrade the kernel also so at that point may as well buy one of those...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I've had no luck with QOS but I didn't mess with it much. Bandwidth Limiter is simpler to setup and works effectively for me though. I ration other devices enough bandwidth to watch Netflix or download at a decent rate and things work smoothly for everyone. But I've found out the same. Some...

Try to do a full reset so your username and password is reset. And as ColinTaylor mentioned, use regular characters this time if you didn't before.

It automatically reboots for me and I think it always has. Our routers are getting old so maybe it's a hardware error. Others have suggested changing power adapters for weird hardware issues.

Parental control tab... In the Notes, it's mispelled "parenetal". :) Petty complaint but other than that, working well on 37EAj9527 for the few features I use. Hooked my old router up (e2500 oc'd to 600mhz) for comparison with a highly optimized DDWRT for latency and still, sometimes 20ms or...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

1mw. That's what mine's set at and I still get decent reception upstairs. Though I only have 30mb internet so doesn't take much wifi to give me what I need.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Is anyone else having issue with "bandwidth limiting" with the past few releases on N66U? I don't see anything unusual in my logs. It doesn't seem to work anymore but does when I create a new entry with the same device and seemed to stop again. One weird issue I recall lately when a guest was...

Logs are worth a thousand words. Specificity of conditions and logs are needed or else these complaints can be worthless. I think John eluded to this already.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I had a problem like this at one point with an iphone when a friend was over, didn't have much time to investigate, but it seemed it was due to it uploading to icloud and hogging all the upload bandwidth so I set a QoS upload limit for it. I don't recall having that problem again the next time...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

In all my years of using Merlin and John's firmware on the N66U, I can't ever recall having wifi issues. Maybe I lucked out with a good one but it's been a solid router. 36E4 is working fine for me.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Thanks, will give it a shot and update this post if it works better. I like how he uses the term "Creator" though perhaps John is benevolent and deserving of the title. Edit: He's showing queing discipline options that I don't have so not a N66U. The newer routers have better implementations of...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Does "traditional QoS" actually work for anyone or am I doing something wrong? It seems it's always been this way on my N66U. Bandwidth limiting tends to work better but if traditional QoS would work I'd use it so I don't have to keep changing QoS for varying devices at varying times. Uploads...
