    But it's more generic like ddwrt and not targeted firmware like Merlin's. Surely it's not as performant as Merlin's or John's fork or have more specific security fixes.

    I really don't think this is a router issue but I'll give it a shot. Only my router is slightly oc'd, and I'm not even sure if you can oc a modem, though don't think it'd have any use. Sorry I couldn't respond sooner; I had no internet access. Being the weekend's over and they're gone, it works...

    To elaborate, I have no connectivity on the modem. Wifi is just fine, I can share files between PCs, connect to the router, etc. I just have no internet at the cable modem. To resolve, generally nothing works. The modem upstream/downstream stats tend to not look so well either but then again...

    Asus firmware has a very minimal linux kernel that's not equipped with usb wifi device drivers. That might be a pretty neat thing for a router to have so you could upgrade your wifi hardware but then again you'd have to upgrade the kernel also so at that point may as well buy one of those...

    It automatically reboots for me and I think it always has. Our routers are getting old so maybe it's a hardware error. Others have suggested changing power adapters for weird hardware issues.

    Logs are worth a thousand words. Specificity of conditions and logs are needed or else these complaints can be worthless. I think John eluded to this already.

    I had a problem like this at one point with an iphone when a friend was over, didn't have much time to investigate, but it seemed it was due to it uploading to icloud and hogging all the upload bandwidth so I set a QoS upload limit for it.     In all my years of using Merlin and John's firmware on the N66U, I can't ever recall having wifi issues. Maybe I lucked out with a good one but it's been a solid router. 36E4 is working fine for me.

    Does "traditional QoS" actually work for anyone or am I doing something wrong? It seems it's always been this way on my N66U. Bandwidth limiting tends to work better but if traditional QoS would work I'd use it so I don't have to keep changing QoS for varying devices at varying times. Uploads...
