What’s the best way to change router?

Staying on the IPv6 theme, neither of my ISPs offer IPv6 connectivity, so for me it’s all a mute point. :)

What’s the best way to change router?

I have found it best to start fresh when setting up a new router, especially if it is a different model than the one it is replacing.

Adding an AIMesh Node - why is this so hard?!?

One other thing to keep in mind is if you are using the SmartConnect option. Some of the older non HND units do not support this wifi option. This will cause issues if example you are running a RT-AC86U as the main router and a RT-AC68U as the AiMesh node.

External HDD Sleep mode doesn't work anymore.

It may be time to move to another platform for your wifi router needs. :)

Release ASUS RT-AC86U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.51255

The only type of USB drive I have ever used on a wifi router is a "thumb" drive or one of the newer small USB SSD drives and that was to run scripts. I use a NAS for file sharing and storage.

    Asus RT-AX86U Pro Performance

Hey @Tech9 …. the eero auto update bit me again! This last one just pushed out earlier this week caused my eero Pro to become unstable. I think that eero, like every other wireless router manufacturer has sacrificed their AC products so they can sell their latest/greatest devices. I am back to...

    Asus RT-AX86U Pro Performance

When I was testing an RT-AX86U Pro for a few days, I found the latest factory firmware to work much better than the RMerlin version. I have since moved off using Asus hardware and now I have nothing to tinker with on my network as it just always works as expected.

    Upgrade from RT-AC68u to RT-AX86u

The RT-AC1900P is a very capable, very reliable unit. I used 2 for awhile before “upgrading” to a pair of RT-AC86U. I have since moved on to non Asus hardware. My 2 RT-AC1900P units are still in service providing excellent service for 2 of my neighbors. :)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.9 is now available for AC models

The Network Client List has always been unreliable on all the Asus routers I have used.

    Functions in Asuswrt-Merlin?

I was being sarcastic with my post. :) The load balance actually worked pretty good on the various Asus routers I tested but I occasionally had issues when trying to do secure services such as online banking. The ER605 actually has a setting that solves that issue named “Application Optimized...

    Functions in Asuswrt-Merlin?

I found a way to get dual wan working reliably on an Asus router…. see my signature :)

    Functions in Asuswrt-Merlin?

Bottom line, Asus routers do not handle dual wan reliably. The only possible solution is a script by @Ranger802004 https://www.snbforums.com/threads/dual-wan-failover-script.78978/

    Dual WAN failover/failback

It is definitely not a priority but they are big on touting that function as a "feature".... as well as their mesh. :)

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

I found the using the bandwidth based balancing was not useful. BTW, I found little help on all of this. I just did a lot of trial and error to get to where I am today with the ER605.

Asus RT-AX86U How to stop hackers...Nothing works

I had no idea Radio Shack was still in business. :) I used to spend a lot of time in one back in the 70s and 80s.

    TP-Link ER605 + ASUS GT-AC5300 - DUAL WAN

To do proper load balancing on the ER605, you need to go into each WAN connection and set your bandwidth speeds so the ER605 will know how to handle the traffic. Also, do not create an entry in the WAN failover part of the configuration. I am not at home right now but I can take some screenshots...
