    You could try John's Merlin-fork only for testing that the router is ok, you have to use firmware restauration tool to upload. @ColinTaylor: As he said it seems to be ok plugged in directly to router makes me wonder it is an issue outside.

    I had 2 86Us, one has been ok and the other didn't apply WiFi settings (and maybe some others too) without reboot. Later I learned only need to SSH and 'service restart_wireless' did it, or disable 2,4G and reenable in GUI.

    No, there is a difference, but its only the name. :p Same like RT-AC68U and AC1900 or AC86U and AC2900.

    Routers are but Internet isn't. As long as you open ports from outside you may be hacked. Router cant know if its you or someone else who gets access to your network.

    Guest Wifi is only possible on master router, all AP and Mesh-nodes dont support it or give no isolation to your intranet as master router wont know that they use guest access on the node. Maybe with future 386 build it might support this.
