How exactly do IoT smart devices pose a threat to home networks?

Many of these tiny devices also never receive any sort of security update, and moist have hard coded firmware that is not updatable. This isn't to say that they will ever be compromised, but if thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of them are out there, they *could* pose a threat to your...

    DLINK NAS 323 issue

I still run 3 x DNS323 boxes. Love them other than the HDD size limits. You should consider FFP0.5 as it allows for great customization. http://dns323.kood.org/howto:1st_steps You may not need to boot linux. I believe an ext2fs driver for windows will give you access to the drives.

    port 80 unable for login

Sounds like you may be in need of resetting to default and configuring from scratch manually to rule out corruption.

Segmentation Faults/Tainted Binaries/Inconclusive Disk Scans and other woes... ;)

You could always try running without any scripts or USB stick and see how stable it is :) Never had a need for them myself. I offload as much as I can to other devices such as a raspberry pi so that my router can focus all resources on the basics, routing.

    NAS lifespan

Raid is not a backup. Sounds like you have no protection against accidental file deletion, malware, ransomware, fire, theft, NAS failure and many other things. I hope the data on the NAS is not particularly important to you or your first consideration should be a backup strategy that reflects...

    HBS 3 NAS Backup

HBS3 doesn't have that option. You can use a script, rsync or other utility to move files between share though. https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=168223

Configure LAN Port as Guest Network?

In my case, my setup has been simplified in the 2 years that have past since that post. But, as the "less secure" stuff was all in its own subnet, the "rule" was simply a routing statement that blocked that subnet from accessing the secure one. I don't have it handy any more but I'm sure there...

RT-AX88U No Internet red light on reboot

Still funny :) So your GUI controls the entire internet :) :) I wish mine had such power. Looks to me like something went bad around here. Sep 25 17:47:05 When was the last time you reset and reconfigured manually from scratch? It seems to start a cascade of things starting with the ddns stuff...

Kick user off the wifi network, how to?

If you truly feel someone not authorized is connected to your wifi, then that remains your best option. However, it would be unlikely that is the actual problem. It is more likely the issue already described.

RT-AX88U No Internet red light on reboot

Please let the rest of us know next time before you turn "the internet" off and on again. I was using it at the time :) :)

Kick user off the wifi network, how to?

As mentioned, just change the SSID password. If it reconnects with your new password, it's one of your devices.

Kick user off the wifi network, how to?

About once a month this exact question comes up over and over.... :) Block them, change your SSID and or password. If it still connects it's one of your own devices. In any case, unless your post your connection info on your front door, it is likely as Tech9 has already said.

RT-AX88U No Internet red light on reboot

Strange. I specifically chose this model to do away with the extra switches I had. I have been using all 8 ports for 3+(?) years now with no apparent issues. Maybe I just don't use the "correct" combination of things to trigger it, or it isn't that common am issue.

DDNS Service -- Which is best?

I have been using afraid.org ever since I heard Merlin used it. If it was good enough for him... After all, we trust his firmware revisions! But, I also paid to have a private domain rather than one of the weird ones. The client interface took a little getting used to, but I don't make many...

Turning mains power on/off - will it damage my router?

$2 x (x number of such devices) x (y million population) I would wager = valuable energy savings for a country that is struggling to find a supplier regardless of the cost. :)

Compare and contrast Synology 220+ vs 218play vs QNAP TS-233-US

Not a "solution" I would promote in any way particularly on these low end units. I follow the QNAP community as I have a couple units as well as a few other brands. Swapping out drives as a backup mechanism causes no shortage or errors and other issues (they aren't designed for that long-term)...

SSH brute force and hacking attempts

Disable all external access except for your inbound VPN. Then you can safely use SSH on your default or non-default port. With malware, brute force and other attacks on the rise, and not likely to subside any time soon, why would you risk opening anything to the internet except through a VPN...

Portf orwarding problem with ASUS Merlin

I would also check the relevant malware lists to see what you are exposing yourself to. Do yourself a favour and setup a VPN on your router so that you can connect remotely through that and full access to all the research of your home network, when not physically at home. Exposing the admin GUI...
