Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

@saison2023 had the same results I did. Regarding Diversion lite/pixelserve… Didn’t I already reported that back to you? Because that’s what I have already confirmed: it’s NOT pixelserve. It’s the logging of Diversion (as that’s switched on by default) in combination with dnsmasq 2.89

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Yes I do and I appreciate the input, though I think we’re in need for some debug versions that log extra stuff. We’ve narrowed it down to these last two “variables”.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

I tried it to with a basic config after a factory reset and only Diversion. IP assignment was not part of that and still I had disconnects.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Not only me, there are more. USB has been renewed too. Jffs been formatted too. Thing is when we go flash dirty(!) to 388.1 it all works again. I appreciate your input, I really do, but we going full circle. We (not just me) really covered most if not all probable causes. (You have to go back...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Ok, the results of testing Diversion lite with logging on: disconnected devices. With logging off everything works. So it’s not pixelsserve. Once again confirmed that it’s the logging of Diversion that triggers that devices can’t connect and a restart of dnsmasq fixes it.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Yes, a new thread might be an option, though I argue it’s not a firmware issue as it’s related to dnsmasq and that came with the firmware ;) Anyway, we’re in contact with Simon.

Yes, that's correct. Sure, I haven't tested that option yet.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

There's at least three of us that have this problem. Maybe it's a specific hardware model? I don't know... Regarding your question regarding other addons. Yes, I have other addons. However, one of the tests that I ran was a factory reset and nothing else except Diversion, and switching logging...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Thanks, I'll ask. Good thing we now know what's, well not exactly causing, but rather where the problem lies: dnsmasq v2.89 and Diversion logging. That's something to go with, right?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

@saison2023 and I have been running some tests as we have the same hardware and plugins installed. I too found that with dnsmasq logging disabled in Diversion fixes 'the problem'. Your solution of using the old dnsmasq is a good find, thank you! I do wonder if it's a bug in dnsmasq or that it...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

In my log I don't see a dnsmasq restart after the Signal 11. I guess "fatal" isn't so fatal in this case 😂 There doesn't seem to be a pattern of some sort behind these Signal 11 notifications. Not in the frequency of appearing, one after 11 minutes, next one 4 minutes later, next x minutes...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

I'm in exactly the same situation. Factory Reset, hard/cold reset, Skynet off, different USB, nothing seems to make a difference... except going back to 388.1 or earlier OR turning Diversion off. I am inclined to believe it has to do with the Diversion statistics update at 5:20 and 17:20 ... but...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

So is that what’s causing the device/computer disconnects I’m experiencing? (And if I’m lucky to have still one device connected I could restart dnsmasq so they can reconnect.)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

I enabled Skynet and Diversion. Monday evening I ran the statistics update of Diversion from my iPad, I thought everything went okay until I opened up my laptop and found that it couldn't connect. I took the iPad and that one too couldn't connect. Remembering what you asked me to post, I tried...

Yes, that’s enabled (though it seems to be always empty/unused).

So disable Skynet, yet enable Diversion? Ok, I’ll test it (but it takes a day or two for me to report back as it doesn’t happen immediately, but after 24h.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

Skynet runs without a hitch. It’s when I have Diversion enabled that devices can’t reconnect, until I restart Diversion. Suspicion is that it has something to do with dnsmasq and/or DHCP — the guest network doesn’t seem to have this problem. Sure thing, though what’s relevant? I’ve been going...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

First, don't say that I am rude, if you experienced something as rude. I wasn't. Second, I don't "blame" Diversion, I love it, it has been working flawlessly. Rmerlin suggested/suspected that it could be dnsmasq and I said that I would test (so did someone else) and report back, so I did. Third...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

I’ve been running 388.2 with 1) Skynet enabled and Diversion disabled: no problems 2) skynet enabled and diversion enabled: problems When I switch diversion off via the web interface, instantly the devices can reconnect again. @RMerlin is right, it’s the new dnsmasq with diversion...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.2 is now available for select models

The USB was new, one of the better tested long lasting ones and it’s in USB2 mode. But more so because, as reported, there’s no problem with 388.1 Even going back “dirty” from .2 to .1 solves it. I doubt the USB is the culprit, but… one can only know for certain after having tested it. Ok...
