    This may or may not help but try disabling ax on the network that the MyQ is using. I had friend who after getting a new xfinity gateway had issues with one of their devices that was using the 2.4 GHz network. Once we disabled ax on that network it connected just fine.

    I was also still using a AC1900 for our camping router tethered to a phone until this year. I purchased a GL-iNet cellular router which is working out good and allows me to use WireGuard to connect to my AC86U at home.

    I could be mistaken but I thought despite using an older GPL Merlin would backport the newer security fixes to the current Asus-Merlin firmware release.

    No issues for me. Running OpenVPN for Android 0.7.43 on Android 13 connecting to my AC86U running 386.11. When I started this post I thought we were using the same Android app but discovered I was using a different app. Decided to leave this here anyway.

    I could be mistaken but I think you might need to switch from the Entware WireGuard Session Manager to the WireGuard that is now part of the firmware to properly utilize NAT acceleration (flow cache). Obviously get confirmation on this before making any changes though.

    I believe most people would recommend factory resetting to defaults when switching back and forth between Asus-Merlin and stock firmware. And you'll want to do the reset after installing the new firmware version.

    Typically you should do the reset after installing the new firmware version but in your case it wouldn't be a bad idea to do it before and after.

    I'll add another VPN speed data point. It's been a while since I used the VPN client so I have no idea which firmware version I was on but my speeds were routinely around 250 Mbps (symmetric) using PIA with AES-128-GCM. On 386.10 I'm seeing around 120 Mbps.

    Did you do a factory reset after installing 386.10? If not, that would be the first thing I'd try. To be clear, when changing firmware's you do the factory reset after installing the new firmware, not before.

    If using an Android phone the SSH Button app makes it very easy to send commands to the router via SSH. I use it to disable/enable Diversion ad blocking. iOS has something similar but I don't remember the name.

    I've been USB tethering Pixel phones for years while camping with an AC68U running Asuswrt-Merlin without issue. Pro tip: enable developer options and then set the default USB mode to USB tethering. Will save you a few clicks each time the phone connects to the router.
