    FAQ - Reserved Characters/Names - SSID/Passwords/Hostnames/Domains

One thing that I've noticed is that the private IP address ranges are not fully blocked off with regards to RADb etc., so for reverse dns lookups I have come across (and poked until they fixed it) some registered ip ranges which should not exist. In my case it was the 172.18.x.x range that...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Another tip if you want to test "realistic" applications is that quite a few of the Ookla test servers (speedtest.net) offers alternative/additional http(s) frontends where you can download files up towards 1000MB in size. It can be a bit tricky to find out the right URLs for these standalone...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Yep, will be doing some iperf3 troubleshooting with the ISPs technical support a bit later, as they seem to have some odd internal routing going on from my town over to the larger connection points, so at the moment I'm happy to reach 200Mbit/s. As far as I can tell they do have some internal...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

While sketching out my plan (and waiting for the ISPs customer support to root out some issues with their internal routing) my ISP has presented their suggestion for getting some speed over their fiber. They published their news item today (english version of article is just below the swedish...

    SG-5100 pfSense® Security Gateway Appliance

It seems their intention is to have their new platform up and running on the SG-5100 as well, but so far it has not materialized other than as an Amazon instance. Whether this platform will only consist of TNSR which they are starting with, or the "little brother" that has been mentioned...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

That would be doable, in case the ISP provides a fully native IPv6 setup. Using something like 6RD or other tunneling, you would still get stuck with issues. In addition, somewhere in the chain going from IPv6 towards IPv4 only resources would become a severe bottleneck.

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Yes, this is parts that would require a lot of consideration, which is why this would be a skunkworks project behind a more tried and tested solution in a virtualized environment. As for a more concrete answer, I do not fully know yet. I know there are flow tables and security groups available...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Yep, I'm guessing it is indeed the first product on market, at least widespread and/or globally. Asus has finally put up a product page, that I can access in Sweden, for the GT-AX11000 as well, which comes with a 2.5Gbit/s (through NBASE-T) WAN port...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Also got a heads up that the Netgear Nighthawk X10 has been updated to be able to use the SFP+ port as WAN port: https://kb.netgear.com/000058223/R9000-Firmware-Version-1-0-3-16 The question is what the CPU in that device is capable of, as I don't really expect to see throughput numbers that...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

I know this has been part of the discussion for quite a while here, so it probably would have been a good idea to ask this earlier, but better late than never I guess. :) Exactly what do you mean when saying "clocks"? My assumption is that we're purely talking CPU frequency, in raw Herz. Ticks...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

In addition I'm also thinking I could try to experiment and build my own setup using CentOS and VPP with the NAT plugin. If nothing else just the understanding of how VPP works would be useful, especially if TNSR is any good indication of the current trends.

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Yep, there's many variables intertwined... With regards to the IPQ807x series, on that page you linked there was a link to the datasheet for the 8078, which is where I'm assuming you need to go. The document was watermarked and not supposed to be out in the open, hence why that link is dead by...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

So far there's not really that much difference, but then again, I really don't have anything to get any throughput above my previous 1gbit/s either, so that's kind of expected. Only thing I've seen improved so far is the routing internally in the ISPs network which I believe is related to the...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Alright then @tman222 now I'm game! With an ETA of delivery of about minus 4 hours, I arrived at home and established that it was not my equipment that needed to be reset, but it was actually the LNK LED on the media converter that had given up! As I had no heads up this was going to happen...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Nope, sorry. Monday came and went, and no switchover happened. After talking with tech support I was informed they were going to have to change a bit more equipment than they initially had planned in the station, which means they had to delay again. No new ETA, which I was hoping to get one...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Yes, And here I quickly realize I deserve a facepalm for me reading things over too quick... Just edited my post above, as it originally said the C3000/D-1500 had ~35gbit/s, where it really should have been 35GiB/s, thus already pushing 14x the bandwidth for the full symmetrical 10gigabit/s...

Hi @tman222, and thank you for chiming in! I did read your thread on the Netgate forums and found it extremely full of insight! Same with @System Error Message, very useful insights you're sharing. As for me, I've realized very much what you're saying, there is no cheap/easy solutions...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Alright, delivery of the media converter is done. Planet XT-705A fitted with a suitable SFP+ module was the equipment I was provided with. The additional CPE the ISP is testing out will be optional equipment, just as the wireless routers the provide today for the gigabit connections. Confirmed...

Today's delightful new problem (10gbit/s connection incoming)

Was contacted yesterday by my ISP who now had an ETA on 1-4 weeks. First step simply was sending the new media converter and ensuring I'd received it, and then booking a technician to make the changes in the local station and syncing that with some time when I'm available to do the change on my...
