FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

Similar? Yes. Exactly the same? No. I do have 50/10mbit VDSL2 now. Sync rate is up around 58/59 and 12/12.5 depending on conditions. Cable in the area is having issues, so it made sense to switch to something more reliable. There are some changes, but they are very situation specific, and may...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

Yes. #1 cause of ping spikes is first and foremost, FlowCache. I have a script disable that on router reboot. Some packets take 500ms to get through FlowCache, so while good for throughput, it's not so good for latency. It also scrambles the classifications. With torrent traffic going...

    RT-AC56U - alternative firmware?

They might not. I remember back when I was using Toastman Tomato firmware, whenever the new exploits came out, the devs would check and found that they were not susceptible to it. Older and more stable kernels and libraries do have their perks. Maybe not features, but security? Sure. I am...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

It's probably flowcache. If you SSH into the router and do fc disable, does it improve? Check if it's on or off with fc status - most higher end AX routers seem to need flowcache off to perform right. Flowcache helps hit those very high mbits, but I gather it sort of scrambles incoming data...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

I think the fastest way to test would be to go download some linux distros and then seed them. If you keep an eye on the graphs, and there's a big disconnect, you have your answer... apply fc disable and retest.

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

I believe that this is the same on all ASUS AX routers. It certainly applies to my RT-AX56U and RT-AX68U. With Flow Cache enabled, I can have some linux distro uploads going, but FlexQOS has no clue how much bandwidth is going through the router. There's ping spikes galore... a few nights ago I...

WAN to LAN Loopback? (For imperfect Boat/Marina IRL scenario)

Pretty much - except with more limited/glitchy software. Well, the mystery has been solved. The main computer in the boat had 255.255.0.0 hardcoded in. It was able to access the LAN subnet, but not the WAN subnet. After carefully checking every device I found out that it works using side by...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

I didn't bother to shape them. I have a 16 address range and an 8 address range that get firewalled. I put things like IOT devices, printers, etc. into there. Why printers? I don't want them downloading firmware updates and becoming incompatible with cheap toner/ink. (That's what the updates...

WAN to LAN Loopback? (For imperfect Boat/Marina IRL scenario)

    1) I seem to recall that the WAN device was inaccessible in a web browser when I tried it with different subnets, but I will confirm when next out there. 2) I will try that and report back later this week. I love the idea of using the CGNAT range to avoid subnet conflicts. Even if a Marina is...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

Just throwing this out there for anyone finding it useful - if you have a bunch of devices that are dedicated to a purpose, with a bit of planning you can shape them all with one rule. https://www.subnet-calculator.com/cidr.php If you go look up a subnet calculator, you can target a specific...

WAN to LAN Loopback? (For imperfect Boat/Marina IRL scenario)

That would do the trick. Is there a command that'll accomplish that? It's really just to simplify the wiring process for boat owners, and avoid them having to buy a bunch of new equipment. Flipping WAN to LAN is liable to result in messups, and with the loopback cable there's no proper WAN...

WAN to LAN Loopback? (For imperfect Boat/Marina IRL scenario)

Howdy, I have a very specific use case, which I have always used Tomato routers for. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to do it for Merlin routers as well (maybe a simple IPTables command or something?), as they are much newer and better supported. When I try to do it with Merlin...

FlexQoS Does FlexQoS work with Full-Fibre Internet?

A good place to start is the ASUS Router list at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Asus_routers#ASUS_Wireless_ac_Routers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Asus_routers#ASUS_Wireless_ax_Routers Start by looking for a Wireless AC or AX router with quite a bit of RAM - at least...

FlexQoS Does FlexQoS work with Full-Fibre Internet?

For my non-PPPoE VDSL2, I discovered the same after diving down the rabbit hole. The link between the modem and the DSLAM has overhead, but you don't know what it is, and they bump your line sync rate up accordingly - so just set it to zero and send the packets and let it figure it out. (At...

Each Firefox download has a unique identifier

Maybe their crawlers suffer from the same issue that I do? Starting a few months back, every page on these forums that I load fails to load with this error. Then I Shift+Reload and it loads fine. Makes browsing take a little longer, but whatever. Have not encountered it on any other sites, and I...

FlexQoS FlexQoS 1.3.2 - Flexible QoS Enhancement Script for Adaptive QoS

Where do you test BufferBloat these days? DSLReports is down, and most others that I am aware of are chaotic, anywhere from A+ to D on subsequent runs, nomatter what you do with the QOS settings.

Apple tracks just as much as the others. How about Lynx, on Linux Mint? ;) Or Palemoon on Windows?

News Trend Micro: Cyclops Blink Sets Sights on Asus Routers

What would you use on Windows? Linux has an abundance of quality security software, but Windows seems pretty lacking. I am in IT and always have to fix it when the antivirus or firewall breaks everything. Most of the virus infested PCs that I see run lots of security software, while most of the...

News Trend Micro: Cyclops Blink Sets Sights on Asus Routers

The addon is sandboxed. Isn't that a step upward in security? Sure, you can pollute the blocklists and cause trouble that way, or crash it with what effectively amounts to a DDOS attack - but that leaves you with it turned off, which is the vulnerability. Or in other words, it enhances security...
