Paranoid about security. I have a few quick, easy questions.

protected management frames. on my android 4.4 phone does nothing. on my android 5.1 phone it changes this WPA2-PSK-CCMP to this WPA2-PSK+PSK-SHA256-CCMP

what does "Protected Management Frames" do security wise?

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

I said the 300ms is for dtim not beacons. Also there is no noticeble lag when i enable wifi on my phones. Certianly not multiple seconds.

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

yeah more regular beacons as I understand it are better if latency is important e.g. such as voip. If its just things like web browsing, streaming, less regular beacons should be ok. I think its not beacons that wake up a sleeping wifi device tho, thats the dtim headers that will do a wakeup...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

maurer I get that issue when on one of my isp's broken gateways. But it goes away when I am on one of their gateways thats properly configured for ipv6. Sadly thats about all I can contribute to the issue as since my isp has stopped saying anything about how they testing ipv6, I got no idea...

New features preferred to see in firmware. ipsec gui, Google drive

asus and broadcom still use an ancient linux kernel, so we need to pressure them to use something modern. Then that will improve merlin's firmware as he can then take advantage of more modern features and security.

Do you recommend turning on Adaptive Qos?

basically if you only care about reducing buffer bloat, and dont want surprises then standard is the best. But if you like a priority system adaptive is the best.

Do you recommend turning on Adaptive Qos?

I think the difference between adaptive and standard is that adaptive uses propriety trend micro algorithms to classify traffic and prioritize accordingly whilst standard is manual configuration only.

    probably the buffer fix :)

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

I this morning was doing some experimentation, I still have discrete ssid's but I had to move my 5ghz to channel 40 (from 100) which annoyed me because lollipop 5.1 now blocks configuring the wifi region and doesnt allow the high channels (as it should do), but anyway I moved my 5ghz to channel...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

This is odd considering a pretty nasty performance issue was fixed in v12 on the ac68 (it wasnt keeping buffers). Ideally you need to give better feedback for the "internet cutoff" how was it cutoff? did you check logs.? I use a samsung s5 with my ac68 on v12 fine as well.

DSLReports Speed Test Now Measuring Buffer Bloat

yeah single threaded downloads have fluctuation without buffer bloat, (probably why isps do the buffering to avoid complaints), in addition if there is any isp side congestion without buffer bloat your speeds will likely get trashed as basically with no buffer bloat your line becomes "polite"...

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

yep, my 2.4 is really crowded, tons of neighbors, so we got opposite situations hence the different preference :)

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

ok thats fair enough, I think there is no universal right answer to the question really. I live in a small enclosed flat, I dont lose coverage anywhere, so I dont need roaming. But I want the max performance possible so I use discrete. But I do resepect everyone's situation is different and...

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

To be frank its irrelevant as to why I need or want the performance, the fact is I want it, and thats enough. I am sure I am not the only person who wants it either. I gave a good reason why I dont use shared ssid's and you still dont accept it because you think I shouldnt have that performance.

so you have never heard the phrase before? its blown out of the water, once more for you :)

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

Well if we all thought that way I would be still on 5mbit adsl and using a 100mbit wireless G router :) I can say tho consider many phones were built cheap with 1x1 mimo so N was absolute max 72mbit, real world conditions more like 30-50mbit. MY internet is 70mbit, so at least AC removes my...

Is your Router/Mobile Device mature enough to switch between 2.4 & 5 GHz ?

yeah if it wasnt obvious I am comparing 5ghz ac to 2.4ghz which at best has N spec. My AC phones on a 3 bar AC 5ghz blow a 5 bar 2.4ghz out the water, but the phone algorithm will think 2.4 is better due to the more bars. My amazon firetv box which uses 5ghz N might be a different story, but...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

well we know client works as I used it on my ac66, which I tested for john. I plan to test the server on it to help aid in debugging although it would be lan to lan vpn, and I would need to reconfigure it so no ip conflict with my ac68, I will do this tho to help get to the bottom of the...
