    RT-AC86U random crash

I also noticed that TrendMicro's license may cause some weird things to happen. I would recommend withdrawing TrendMicro's license agreement before making a settings backup. After restore from backup TrendMicro's license can be accepted again. I would also recommend not to restore from backup...

    RT-AC86U random crash

Ah, I see. You may try resetting nvram. 1) Power off your router with the power button. 2) Hold WPS button and push the power button while holding WPS button for at leaset 10 seconds. This resets nvram and starts CFE (you can check it if you connect to console). 3) Now you can release WPS button...

    How did you clear nvram?

GT-AC5300 bricked router - No keyboard input over serial

I recently had a boot loop issue with AC86U. I recovered by the following steps: 1) reset nvram by holding wps and powering the device on 2) as soon as CFE prompt appears power the device off, disconnect power cord and switch the device on to discharge capacitors 3) reconnect the power cord...

Asus RT-AC86U - Out of memory / Settings don't save / Log "Argh. No free space left for GC."

The problem was in the TrendMicro’s license. As soon as I withdrew and then accepted the license again, the GC errors stopped. I suppose license agreement doesn’t survive either jffs or settings restore.

    Have you tried resetting nvram?

    RT-AC86U 1024MB RAM support.

    Sorry, I must be looking at a different code base: Searching 268587 files for "DRAM_BASE_NOCACHE" /Volumes/Files/asuswrt-merlin.ng/release/src-rt-5.02hnd/cfe/cfe/arch/arm/board/bcm63xx_rom/src/bcm63xx_impl1_ddr_cinit.c: 523 524 memsize = memsize<<17; 525: base_addr =...

    RT-AC86U 1024MB RAM support.

How can it be that the error pops up at exactly above 1GB? It just doesn't seem like an arbitrary location.

    RT-AC86U 1024MB RAM support.

Have a look at release/src-rt-5.02hnd/kernel/linux-4.1/arch/sh/mm/Kconfig: config MEMORY_SIZE hex "Physical memory size" default "0x04000000" help This sets the default memory size assumed by your SH kernel. It can be overridden as normal by the 'mem=' argument on the...

You had ECC issue when you tried to boot the router after flashing NAND.

    RT-AC86U 1024MB RAM support.

Thank you. Now I see that I had to search for BGA instead of FBGA case. When FBGA case search filter is used only DDR4 16Gbit memory modules are displayed in search results. I haven't yet found a way to restore corrupt CFE with UART. I suspect there is none. I have an RT-AC86U with corrupt CFE...

    RT-AC86U 1024MB RAM support.

What chip did you choose? I tried to find 16Gbit FBGA-96 DDR3L chip on mouser, but failed. 2GB FBGA-96 chips are DDR4.

    RT-AC86U mysterious contacts on PCB

Does anyone know what these contacts on RT-AC86U's PCB are? Aren't they JTAG connectors for Macronix NAND? If so, does anyone know the pinout?

Asus RT-AC86U - Out of memory / Settings don't save / Log "Argh. No free space left for GC."

Thank you for your help. I will look into the discussion you advised. One thing I noticed is that the GC error pops up here and there from time to time and every time it is assumed that jffs code is working correctly like you said that it's not a Linux kernel bug.

Asus RT-AC86U - Out of memory / Settings don't save / Log "Argh. No free space left for GC."

You're right. The errors might not be the same. Yet, I decided to post here because I thought they might be related. If you have a look here you may notice that the two errors can occur one after the other: Maybe you are right. Yet, I have indeed an RT-AC86U with 384.19 Stable and I...
