    DNSFilter vs VPN (+VPN Director?)

Ah yes static routes in the OpenVPN config? I've done that before using something like: route 192.168.8.1 255.255.255.255 net_gateway That sets up WAN route to my modem. spdMerlin uses speedtest.net but it has an autoserver selection so might be too complicated to set up this way. I'm sure...

spdMerlin spdMerlin - v4.x - speedtest and bandwidth monitoring

spdMerlin does a good job disabling QoS temporarily for speed tests. Has anyone figured out way to make spdMerlin work when router defaults to VPN using force internet traffic through VPN: Yes?

    DNSFilter vs VPN (+VPN Director?)

Yes. So with PBR default is WAN and exceptions have to be made for VPN. I would rather have it the other way round. Seems more logical to me. Is that achievable in Asus Merlin without heavy script stuff? If I set force internet traffic to yes, then that gives me the desirable VPN default, but...

Diversion Diversion not working with OpenVPN

With this arrangement where does the unbound related traffic go? Through WAN?

    Nord VPN on RT-AX82U

NordVPN seems great, but I cannot imagine the use of a VPN being compatible with latency sensitive games.

    spdMerlin + CAKE [+ VPN]

I found an alternative way to do what I want is to just explicitly specify rules on PBR with the DNS server IP addresses set to destinations and interface as VPN - this seems to ensure that DNS lookups on the router get sent over the VPN. To get Divert to work properly I just set my desired DNS...

    DNSFilter vs VPN (+VPN Director?)

Thanks for that. Ah yes, I meant putting the IP in the destination. Are DNS requests the only major traffic originating from the router itself? I don't like my ISP having visibility of my traffic. That's one reason I preferred 'Force Internet traffic over tunnel: Yes' because it meant...

    DNSFilter vs VPN (+VPN Director?)

Thanks for the helpful input. So if I put the CleanBrowsing (Family) as a destination, will that mean that the router will go via VPN in respect of its DNS lookups to that destination?

    RT-AC68U Rclone

Works fine for me yop16 with RTAX86U - you just have to specify config file on the USB with "--config". I even made a funky script to monitor a directory for creation of a PDF (sent by my scanner over samba share) and, upon detection of a new PDF, upload it to OneDrive, as follows: #!/bin/bash...

how to add such a static route in the web interface ?!

Incase it helps, I added a static route in the OpenVPN client config from my router (192.168.1.1) to my modem (192.168.8.1) in order to work with 'force internet traffic through tunnel: yes', by adding this line at the end of the custom config:
  11. Lynx

    spdMerlin + CAKE [+ VPN]

That would be super cool because 'Force Internet traffic through tunnel: Yes' is desirable to prevent DNS leaks. I prefer the idea of having all traffic default through VPN. And PBR seems to fail when you try to direct traffic originating through router to VPN. Also see my question here...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.3 beta is now available

ETA for the official release? Thanks everyone for testing this out and reporting bugs here.

    DNSFilter vs VPN (+VPN Director?)

What is the best way to ensure that DNS queries that arise via DNSFilter such as: Global Filter Mode: CleanBrowsing (Family) Get routed through the VPN thereby to safeguard against exposing DNS queries to ISP? The only way I managed to achieve this before was to specify: Force Internet...

Rclone (Entware-NG) issues configuring and syncing

I have run with the cool solution in this thread for automating backups using rclone upon filesystem change. In my case I have my scanner send scans to network share. Router picks up change on file system and then effects an rsync copy to OneDrive. Does anyone see any issues (especially safety...

    spdMerlin + CAKE [+ VPN]

Yes - it seems tun11 shows traffic with the ASUS speed test. So I think it is just going over the VPN as you supposed. So is the fix for me to stop using 'Force Internet traffic through tunnel: yes'? I may be wrong but I understand that when using PBR under OpenVPN Client settings + DNS...

    spdMerlin + CAKE [+ VPN]

Good point. And actually if the VPN speeds up again I ought to work with WAN limit anyway, since then I can make use of the extra bandwidth. In that case, with having set in OpenVPN client settings: (I like the above because this forces all normal traffic through the VPN, including DNS...

    spdMerlin + CAKE [+ VPN]

Fantastic add on Jack Yaz. AutoBW works perfectly with CAKE even with custom CAKE script override. For those using auto bandwidth calculations - do you still have the tests run every hour on 12 and 42 as default? I can see one issue with this is the tests may get distorted by other general use...

    Interaction between Cake-QOS and OpenVPN

Thanks all. Am I correct in thinking the overhead as calculated above should be applied to both 'tun11' and 'br0'? I checked and the packet lengths are consistent when generated from ping commands from router and from entities connected to router. From router I get difference (137-84=53); from...

    Interaction between Cake-QOS and OpenVPN

Thanks - got it based on the wiki: admin@RT-AX86U-4168:/tmp/home/root# cat /jffs/scripts/openvpn-event #!/bin/sh service restart_qos All works well now it seems. By the way, did my calculation of WAN packet overhead of 53 as determined above look right to you? Do you not think it would be...

    Interaction between Cake-QOS and OpenVPN

Thanks. Seems to be working very well: https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=6e930870-d0e6-4485-b04b-a32451f15eb6 At the moment on reboot with stock 386.2_6 either upload is not getting set or something appears to be overwriting such that I end up with: qdisc pfifo_fast 0: dev...
