    Overclocking RT-AC56U

I never tested OpenVPN server so I do not know what performance to expect.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

thanks Adam, upgraded firmware to http://198.23.248.102/N56U/RT-N56U_3.4.3.8-080.trx first time ever upgraded over wifi :) by the way, wifi looks good - my s...y Intel N-1030 has a solid link at 270 which is an achievement for that terrible adapter...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Actually, I take my recommendation back - I am currently using this one: 078-140126-714e45 which you can get from here: https://disk.yandex.com/public/?hash=rwddgCHgMzfpjj10g5TeE/4NduAl4f3/PAfnHa43Fsc%3D and it seems very decent - no issues; but I am not using DLNA on the router.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Try the base version. If you see any issues with .79, try .75 - seems to be very stable

RT-AC56U - what are the bootloader versions?

Hold on... which firmware version did use when you overclocked? the current ones listed in your signature? Did BogoMIPS confirmed performance boost?

    Overclocking RT-AC56U

Please go back to Merlin .38-2 firmware and with that, try to set CPU only to 1000MHz, and see if it works. By the way, my RMA unit has bricked and goes back... - point is, you better secure a backup router should your AC56 decide to give up...

RT-AC56U - what are the bootloader versions?

How about that DDR Config Upgrade tool for AC68U - that one does update the bootloader, right? Please educate me: - Bootloader is similar in function to the system BIOS or video BIOS - correct? - Firmware is somewhat similar to OS image with device drivers in it - correct? thanks!

RT-AC56U - what are the bootloader versions?

Completely agree - that's exactly why some people can get reliably only 1GHz on CPU, and some extremely lucky ones managed to squeeze 1.6GHz out of 800Mhz CPU. However, that still does not explain the issues I am seeing with bootloader. Questions: - is there any way to reflash the router...

    Overclocking RT-AC56U

UPDATE: with bootloader 1.0.1.9, my router is a piece of horseredish :( Very unstable, even .38-2, and it looks like it is becoming a brick... :(

RT-AC56U - what are the bootloader versions?

and the sad truth is - I cannot overclock my AC56U anymore - an I blame the bootloader... Merlin FW .38-2: occasionally I can get it boot at 1200/800 (BogoMIPS are ~2300), but it will crap out after few reboots and I have to clear NVRAM to recover the router. Merlin .39, .40 - no love at...

RT-AC56U - what are the bootloader versions?

Hello folks, Does anyone know anything about different Bootloader versions on AC56U? If there are different versions available, what is difference (like changelog)? How can one update or reflash bootloader? Merlin mentioned that in the newer versions of bootloader memory clock is increased...

    Overclocking RT-AC56U

Seriously - this is crazy - I cannot even set CPU to 1000 Mhz (not touching the memory speeds) Anyone else is having this issue .40 firmware? UPDATE2 : Looks like some weird issue with Firefox ... switched to IE - had to reflash to .39 and now clocks are back to 1200/800 -...

    Overclocking RT-AC56U

So today I got my router back from RMA, and it was a replacement which came with a very old firmware - .372_184-g593823e Of course I flashed it with the latest .40 Merlin firmware, but now I cannot overclock the damn unit at all - I tried to set 1200,800 and it keeps coming back to stock 800...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Driven by curiousity, I updated my N56U from .75 to this one: 078-140126-714e45 So far very limited testing, but at least it did not lock up overnight...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

I agree - .79 is very buggy, and I am having a lot of issues even with .75 This is the first time I hear about MercuryV - did any one try it ever before? is there any change log? thanks...

    RT-N56U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561

I tried that and went back to Padavan .75 - .79 seems to have bug and keeps locking the router. From the recent Padavan's recent firmwares, .75 seems to be the most stable...

    Interesting link about RT-AC87U

All of the above is true. BUT there is something else should be taken into consideration: power consumption. 3x3 wifi module most likely will drain more battery than 1x1. ALL laptop manufacturers understand that even the most technologically challenged customers can tell the difference on how...
