Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

I thought journalling was optional. I have not noticed any overhead though.. Should I? Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Yeah that's all I have. Formatted as EXT4 rather than EXT2, FAT or whatever.. EXT4 is native Linux and it works great so far. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

In my fantasy world I could map or somehow graphically represent the IDS events by country or other criteria. Ports scanned, when etc... Any way to filter out the noise too.. I suspect a lot of it is just noise. But an Excel pivot table could do a lot quite easily with structured data...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Oh right well I have one 16GB EXT4 partition and it works beautifully. More flash memory and swap than this thing will ever need. More than my PC of some years ago had. So I have left debug mode on as I assume stat collection is required for that. I suppose that just keeps rolling over or...

Need help finding a powerful and stable Asus router

Reset everything back to default, factory reset, set it all back to up and leave on auto with the correct region set. Then test with one device at a time while all others are powered off. Do this from the same room and then a larger distance. Monitor the radio radar screen or whatever it is...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

16GB old usb drive here, 1GB swap yet it only ever seems to use max 20MB or so of Swap... Why not just use one partition for the whole USB stick? I don't see any need to partition it.

Need help finding a powerful and stable Asus router

I suggest you start a dedicated thread to this under the Merlin section with precise symptoms, configuration, devices and steps taken so far. And where / how you bought it too.

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Yeah well built in weighs it down or hits other limitations.. Splunk or ELK sounds like a better option... Can we periodically collect logs for offloaded analysis or something.. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

I think offloading to an external device like a PC is the way to go. There may even be Linux tools around that can be used with a Linux install or bootable Linux disc. I agree, don't load up the router any more than absolutely necessary. It is even possible to command Syslog to send logs live...

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Have you tried disabling all country blocking? RapidGator broke for me when I banned Russia. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

One should always disable UPnP... I have never enabled this and notice no issues. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Skynet Skynet - Router Firewall & Security Enhancements

Oh totally understand about scope and I support that approach. But if the logs can exported to a PC some tool may exist or could be leveraged somehow.. Just curious. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

Is there harm in leaving debug enabled? Is it needed for stat collection? Some stat analysis would be awesome too, like mapping or country breakdown, if there is a tool for that. Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Glad we can help.. Just be mindful who own VPNs.. Try finding out who owns Nord VPN for example. I asked them several times and they refused to answer, just saying they're "based" in Panama which means squat. At least the Australian government is a "known evil" I would trust more than most of...

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Fair point I guess. Totally agree. But TOR at least encrypts across nodes within the network, and I understand the 'breaches' were not on the TOR network itself but on the client side, and TAILS OS would go a long way to eliminating that risk. And it's free. Ask people in nearly any Muslim...

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Maybe we can start a dedicated privacy thread here ... There's clearly sufficient interest and the router can support these aims well.

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Well Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) claims to be private and audited to be just that. There are probably others but there is no guarantee. And it's not illegal because the law allows it. It is only illegal if the law does not allow it. That's why it's called the 'law' set by our, apparently...

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Me too I will continue using it, and just use TOR or TAILS if I am ever that concerned about privacy. Would still be handy if Diversion or Skynet could block the tracking though... Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Ironic indeed and yes familiar with that - check out Black Mirror S3E01 sometime. It's 'supposed' to be fiction but already becoming reality. Anyway a whole deep discussion there about data mining entrenching structural disadvantage (e.g. loan / insurance qualification, etc). This sht needs...

384.6 Now sharing data to Trend Micro?

Pulled? Oh.... Privacy is getting ridiculous these days. At best, people are now seen as 'freely mine-able assets'. At worst it's a dystopian nightmare waiting to happen. Look what 1940s Germany did with the first tracking systems (tabulating machines). The definition of 'wrong' can take a...
