    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Hmm, not really at all. That doesn't seem to match what you'd expect from Cake on a ~100Mbps connection. If your unshaped speed tests reliably hit 120Mbps, then you would expect to see Cake working well at around 100-110Mbps. You would want to enable the "Filter duplicate ACKS" enabled on the...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

You should also be getting better than a B rating on your non-Wireguard test too. How much of a margin do you have to add to your download bandwidth before that download latency drops below +10ms?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Full power cycle of the router is probably required. Same thing happens to my router occasionally. A soft reboot doesn't even do the trick, I have to full power the unit off before it will accept the firmware image.

And also on that note, has there been any behind the scenes progress towards the application of a basic set of rules on the download side?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Hehe, and that's why on my first list that was ordered by difficulty, RMA was at the end ;). Ease of implementation and technical correctness are most often mutually exclusive objectives ;)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Hey don't get me wrong. My list was simply ordered by easiest to hardest in terms of solutions to bringing temperatures down. If you were to ask me the order of the same solutions that was technically "most correct", it would be as follows: a) Contact Asus and RMA the router (ie. get Asus to...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

Out of interest, what is your current temperature both with and without the fan in action? Having a temperature rise of 5 degrees is entirely expected with this firmware. What matters is how high it got to. If your temperature without a fan doesn't get above 85-90 degrees C then you really...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 is now available

No change should have been expected. The issue is a physical problem with the router, that has been exacerbated by the new features in the latest firmware. Your only options are (from easiest to hardest): a) Ensure your router is clean and free of debris b) Make sure it has good airflow c)...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

You'll see no benefit from choosing either unless you have a method of marking packets with DSCP priority flags. diffserv4 just means you have 4 levels (or tins) with which to prioritise packets, and diffserv8 has 8. I don't think the diffserv8 tins have "names" as-such like with diffserv4, as...

AC88U Merlinwrt 386.2_2 not accessible after update

I know that a month or two before this update, my jffs partition had completely filled up with this database. At the time, I ended up just deleting the database, and it more or less stayed at a reasonable size after that. When the update rolled around, the trim procedure barely took any time...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Nothing to worry about. Just natural variation. Mine runs between 10 and 11ppm. My old server PC used to run at about 30ppm from memory.

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Now I think about it, what might be nice to see on the GUI page is the ability to query the source information from the time daemon ("chronyc sources" or "ntpq -p" depending on the daemon selected). Maybe just a text box that can be updated on demand via button-click would do. No need to...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Thats the thing though. The fact that you have a drift value is a direct result of the chrony daemon actually compensating for the drift already. When chrony fetches time from the upstream servers, it is able to detect when the local clock is consistently drifting out of synchronisation. It...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

That scenario should never arise so long as you have a good number of servers from a variety of providers. The chances of all servers simultaneously slewing consistently in the same direction for any length of time should be vanishingly small. That's about the only way your router would...

Advice: Best merlin compatible router for adaptive QoS but not using Wi-fi

The extra cores won't help. Just the core type and clock speed, and the ac86u is just as fast in that regard as any of the others. Since you aren't going to use the WiFi, the only other differences would be the 2.5Gb LAN port and the extra RAM on the ax86u.
  16. Wade Coxon

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

There is no need to change that. That default value of 100 is just a cap on the maximum amount of drift compensation that the chrony daemon can apply when it is in between polls from upstream ntp servers. It is just to stop the drift value being set to some insanely high value. It will...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Not sure about the rest of you, but when I last tested, my rt-ac86u would reboot any time I set QoS from a disabled state to an enabled state with cake. The change took effect, but caused the reboot to occur. Perhaps the automate speed tests are experiencing a similar difficulty with...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Add Cloudflare as a server though, not as a "pool". I am pretty sure their service doesn't function like a ntp pool. (I'm less sure about Apple)
  19. Wade Coxon

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Don't worry too much about the server stratum. Lower is better, but latency and stability are also important. The chrony server selection algorithm will take care of selecting the best servers from the ones you have configured. As to pool, I think you may be misunderstanding the concept...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

@New2This , it's a bit strange to be getting 0ms latency even for the unloaded test. Something not quite right with that screenshot. What detailed values were shown for those tests?
