    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

If cake is configured and working properly, it should resolve those issues. With your 400/10 connection, you probably want to consider adding the ack-filter option onto your download link. That will help prevent your uplink being saturated with acks packets resulting from a saturated downlink...

    CakeQoS Speedtest at 100%

Cake only uses a single thread, so will be limited to saturating a single core at those speeds.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

The ac86u and ax86u have the same single threaded performance, so the cake speed cap will be the same, or at least very similar across both those models.

CakeQOS NAT enabled on Cake & Router Firmware?

Cake isn't "doing NAT" per-se. The nat option is to tell cake that it needs to track connections and account for the fact that your router is performing NAT.

Solved Certain websites will not load

Is the MTU in your router set correctly? This is a common symptom of an oversized MTU.

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

ntpmerlin is an Addon that needs to be installed separately. In order to run ntpmerlin, you need to have Entware installed. Entware needs a USB device to be permanently plugged into the router to add extra storage for installing extra software packages. jffs scripts also need to be enabled to...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

I don't think anyone else is seeing that on the QoS tab.

    CakeQOS Cakeqos setup help

Since you are running 386.1 and Cake 1.x.x, then yes, you need to completely switch off QoS in the WebUI. All QoS configuration is then performed from the router's command line. If you instead switch to the 386.2 beta, then you will want to first, uninstall the cake-qos mod, upgrade the router...

Anecdotal Observations on CPU - 386.2 betas

I noticed that my ac86u was showing higher than normal CPU activity, and I traced it to the upnp service (ran "top" at the command line). I traced it back to the NVIDIA game streaming service on my PC. It must have been smashing the upnp ports on the router for some reason. I don't actually...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Ahh cripes, yep I see the posts now. I didn't connect two and two together when that error was reported. Apologies! Another question, and this is probably more applicable to main beta thread, bit I will ask here since there is a high concentration of cake users. If QoS is disabled, and I...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Yes it matters because the link with the bottleneck, your internet connection, is the one that your router is attempting to compensate for.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

I just applied a hotfix update, and this tooltip appears to have stopped working.

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

I ran the manual update, and can now see that the "Check" button works. However, it keeps finding a Hotfix and offering to apply it. Now I am assuming that hotfixes are not being released at a rate of one every 30 seconds or so ;). EDIT: Just updated from the script suing the shell again, and...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

Funny, I consistently get what seem like accurate bufferbloat measurements from dslreports, so had no reason to question it. The Waveform test does look pretty neat though. With cake enabled, on my VDSL 30/9 Mbps connection I get a nice rock solid A+ on both dslreports and Waveform with limits...

    Router temperatures

Most computers with decent airflow have both in and out. It would mostly depend on the internal volume of the device. The larger it is on the inside, the more likely that a pull configuration will be better though.
  16. Wade Coxon

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Looks like hitting the "Check for update" just leaves the activity spinner running indefinitely. Perhaps a symptom of no updates having ever been released, but hopefully that should time out normally. If an update is available, does a new "Update" button appear or something?

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Do you think it would be better to automatically include the default ULOPTIONS and DLOPTIONS into the cake-qos.add file, and then just append the ones that have been applied from the GUI? (ie. ULOPTIONS="$ULOPTIONS <moreoptions") Also (and I know I keep harping on about this), has anyone done...

    CakeQOS CakeQOS-Merlin v1.0.8

I don't think Merlin is interested in giving users a million ways to tweak these default settings since the defaults are generally very reasonable. It's best not exposing all the dangerous buttons and levers to folks who might not know what they are doing. Those who need to tweak will either...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

You're right. If you are consuming the uplink with other traffic, then that increases your "effective" UL/DL traffic ratio and will throttle acks.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

You are unlikely to see any benefit. The problem comes about because as you saturate your download with TCP traffic, the upload channel needs to send ACK packets at an ever increasing rate. There is a point, where the upload link can't send them fast enough to keep up, and hence the downloads...
