Routers, VPN, and IP cams on the network, what makes thing run well/smoothly?

WOW!! It's amazing just how much I DON'T know! :) I've got to see if I can dig up some documentation on the Asus router that provides some basic direction for us amateurs. I found the feature you were talking about (VPN Director), and also discovered that SurfShark has this feature...

Routers, VPN, and IP cams on the network, what makes thing run well/smoothly?

You're correct.... it is the OpenVPN client, being run on the router.....the VPN service being utilized is SurfShark. The "split tunneling" is something I am unfamilar with... will go do a bit of research and try to educate myself. Thank You!

Routers, VPN, and IP cams on the network, what makes thing run well/smoothly?

To date I have received good/valuable information from my question on these forums (aside from some who used my threads as a soapbox), and would like to thank those folks for taking the time to answer. As the title sates..... I'm curious to hear what more knowledge folks can tell me about the...

    Firmware: Asus Merlin AC86U question

By that can I assume you mean a different model of router? A brand new AC86U instead of a "renewed" one? Or ????? I already have an Asus RT-AC88U, which does have some annoying quirks, but mostly does well. Honestly, I was reviewing what folks here on the forums were...

    Firmware: Asus Merlin AC86U question

Thank you!! I had no idea. That's was my first time seeing a "W" file format.

    Firmware: Asus Merlin AC86U question

I ordered a "renewed" Asus RT-AC86U router, and it arrived this morning. Long story short, I was DOA, and I am returning it for replacement. However, during my preparation for it's arrival, I went to the Asus Merlin site, and downloaded the Asus firmware for the router. (RT-AC86U_386.4_0.zip)...

Multiple Router network.... same or different SSIDs?

Well, through trial and error I believe I have it figured out..... My Network: Asus AC88U as the backbone, connected to the incoming cable/modem. From one AC88U LAN port to LAN port into the next router in line/in the nearest outbuilding router (AC68U (#1). LAN port from AC68U #1 to the next...

Multiple Router network.... same or different SSIDs?

OK.... I am at the point were I want to begin updating my home network. Right now, because the Asus AX86U is so far out for delivery, for the present I've picked up a Asus RT-AC88U, and plan to install the Merlin firmware. This will be my "main" router/backbone, connected to the modem/ISP...

Multiple Router network.... same or different SSIDs?

As the network is right now, with the multiple SSIDs, I have each assigned to different wireless channels. (same for the bands... 2.4 and 5.0) If I don't necessasarily have to change that, and it wouldn't affect how mobile devices roam/connect to the various routers' signals, I'd just as soon...

Multiple Router network.... same or different SSIDs?

Wow! In just two short replies, I have MUCH to think/learn about.... and possibly implement! I've already wasted most of my day researching the things mentioned in coxhaus's reply..... now I'll need more time to explore OzarkEdge's. Thank you!!

Multiple Router network.... same or different SSIDs?

I spent some time searching, but wasn't able to find any answers. Likely not typing in good search parameters..... So.... Years ago, when I built my home network, I used AC68U routers. As in THREE of them throughout the network...in order to supply sufficient wifi around the...

    New to VPNs on Routers..

Thanks for that input! As I said in another reply, I did order the AC88..... but it may just get returned, based not only on your words, but also the extra research that posting on these forums has lead me to. :) And replaced with the AX86. This seems as good a place as any to pose the...

    New to VPNs on Routers..

Thanks! It's funny you mentioned VPN Unlimited! That's what started this entire journey. I own VPN Unlimited, but was having issues with it leaking my IP and DNS. I was pulling speeds such as those you mentioned too, on Wireguard, but again, it was NOT secure. I also had a number of other...

AC68U from DD-WRT to Merlin help

Thank you for that. I will say that I would have never found that via a search.... I was searching everything using "Asus RT-AC68U" terminology. Only because the labels identify the routers as "Asus", and the UI identifies them as "RT-AC68U..... Beside, I'm not running Asuswrt-Merlin on...

    New to VPNs on Routers..

Morning! I'm new to the forums, but have relied on SNB for years when I needed knowledge on most of my networking questions. Today I find myself in a somewhat new situation, and needing input/advice. I've played around, off and on, with VPNs for about a year now, and recently decided to...

AC68U from DD-WRT to Merlin help

Hello! I've been a follower of SNB for years, and have gleaned a great deal of knowledge. This is my first forum post.... because I have exhausted all other avenues. SETUP: Home network, running 3 Asus T-Mobile hot spot devices, that have been converted to AC68U, and are running DD-WRT...
