Simultaneous VPN Server and VPN Client

I found port forwarding to be quite difficult and I never really got it to work :(. I would suggest to follow the suggestion by @Martineau if you know the port that your NAS Synology uses... Or You could allow passthrough to your VPN client when connecting to your VPN server. You would then...

    Brand new AC86U's 5GHz dead

One last (long shot)... hide ssid for 5 Ghz has not accidentaly been set to yes?

    Brand new AC86U's 5GHz dead

That is unfortunate :(. I had some issues with that 5 Ghz dissappeared at first as well. Turning the radio off and then on solved it for me. It has been also been stable since I set it to channel 36. Hope you find a solution or a new router :).

    Brand new AC86U's 5GHz dead

Try looking at these two threads to see if any of the suggestions could help you. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/5ghz-not-working.57016/ https://www.snbforums.com/threads/5ghz-wifi-connection-problem-ac86u-on-384_10.57181/#post-499106

    Brand new AC86U's 5GHz dead

Have you tried to disable 5 Ghz radio and then enable it? After that try a different channel for 5 Ghz, channel 36 should not have any interference (apart from flat neighbours).

Make device forget the WiFi password - ASUS AC-88U Merlin 384.12

Not sure I completely understand the issue here. I find it weird that it is not possible to reset the problematic devices in order to connect them to the wifi network again. Perhaps this thread has some useful information for you...

AC86U sometimes powers completely off during reboot

Might as well add that my RT-AC86U suffers from the same issue. However it has been a while since it occured now. I have read opinions in this thread that the reboot scheduler is not really necessary to use. I thought a router worked best if it was rebooted once in a while. I did use the reboot...

    5GHz wifi connection problem- AC86U on 384_10

There was a post about this a few weeks ago (a bit hard to find though). The solution there was unfortunately to replace the RT-AC86U. Please read through the posts and see if any of the suggested solutions will work for you before replacing your router. Good luck...

    AiMesh Topology Set-Up Question

Just to be clear, I am not sure about the possibility to connect ethernet via a switch between Aimesh router and node. Someone with more knowledge would need to elaborate this. However, ethernet between nodes will not work.

    AiMesh Topology Set-Up Question

There is an Asus Merlin version for the DSL-AC68U created by Gnuton. You could check that out. However it does not support Aimesh (same as every Asus Merlin Firmware) https://www.snbforums.com/threads/dsl-ac68u-asuswrt-merlin-builds-for-dsl-routers.55985/ There are other ways to use a roaming...

    5GHz not working

Aha. You could try turning 5 Ghz radar off and then on again. However, @L&LD advice seems like the best to follow.

    5GHz not working

I I had the same issue before as well. Works fine when I switched to channel 36 for 5 Ghz. Also, if you have purchased your router online, check if the region is correctly set in Wireless/Professional. As I understand it, different regions allow different channels. If you are using android...

    Secure remote access - how?

I suggest you go for @martinr trick then under LAN/LAN IP to avoid that.

    Secure remote access - how?

@martinr I did som more research due to that I tried to stream to a Chromecast this evening when connected to my home VPN (which did not work at first ). The reason why I could not connect to 192.168.1.1 on LAN (when connected to VPN) had to do with that I did not bypass VPN for local...

    Secure remote access - how?

I am no expert, but follows the advice of those who know more and like to share to others what settings work for me. Indeed I have Advertise DNS to clients for DOT. No need for that, just a curiosity. Thanks anyway :).

    Secure remote access - how?

Hmm. Then it is quite weird that I cannot reach 192.168.1.1 on the local network at my cottage when connected to my home VPN.

    Secure remote access - how?

Is that really how it works @martinr ? I am currently testing to reach the router at my cottage (which uses 192.168.1.1) when connected to my home router through VPN server. My home router uses 192.168.50.1. I am directing both LAN and Internet through my home VPN server. When connected to my...

    Secure remote access - how?

Once connected to the VPN server you just open your browser and type 192.168.1.1 (or router.asus.com).

    Secure remote access - how?

I would avoid opening up ports to your routers WebUI when a more secure option (OpenVPN) exists. An OpenVPN server is quite easy to configure in the router WebUI with help from Xentrk guide. You can choose to access only your LAN as well as route internet traffic on your device (wherever you...
