2x RT-AX86U for AiMesh and Merlin 386.2 Beta 3 and some AddOns... where to start?

I'm afraid I don't know for sure since I have Diversion, but I recently had read through the vnstats thread and that was my impression. Wow, you have a great ISP, I'd say you are good! I always forget about the HW accel, I have a much less demanding 85/6 plan... *With* cake I can improve to an...

2x RT-AX86U for AiMesh and Merlin 386.2 Beta 3 and some AddOns... where to start?

Nice summary by @CaptnDanLKW, that's what I would do too. Diversion is only needed if you want vnstat to send you email reports. Merlin 386.2 (Beta 3 currently) includes cake support, which is truly set and forget. If you are good without then no problem, just something to keep in mind if you...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Upload is what you want, I think Wade had a typo there. And since this is the cake thread, the setting is in the UI as "Filter Duplicate TCP ACKs", just set Upload to Yes.

CakeQOS cuts download speed in half

400 down and *10* up? Wow, that is heavily asymmetric! I am not sure how much bandwidth is needed for acks, but for sure I would suggest trying setting "Filter Duplicate TCP ACKs" to Yes on Upload (not needed for download). That's a setting for the Cake alpha, which you mentioned you have. I'm...

    Sounds great, enjoy!

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Thanks for the tips! I updated and everything is good. I'm not sure if I needed to, but I updated unbound and scribe as you suggested.

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

For what it's worth I did see amtm showing an update available for entware today. I am afraid to do it now :) Maybe this weekend when I would have time to troubleshoot.

Firmware support and new router buy.

Note that the AX58 has fewer wireless channels than your AC68 (2x2 vs 3x3) so not as much wifi bandwidth, if that matters to you. AX68 is 3x3 and AX86 / AX88 are 4x4. Very true! I have an AiMesh setup, so if I have a hardware failure in one I can put the other one into service. Not HA, but it...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

How frustrating! I don't suppose there are any clues in the log files? I remember some people had problems with "NTS" servers (secure ntp) since entware chrony doesn't support that, but you'd see an error in the log, and you'd have to specify nts in the server line. It looks like chrony is...

Firmware support and new router buy.

Oh good point, I have seen people mention reliability problems. Mine have been fine, and they run at 75 °C, so heat has not been a problem (unlike PC processors, the router chipsets are good to more like 100 °C). Since mine have been good, I don't have a good handle on whether the production...

Firmware support and new router buy.

AC86U is actually newer than the AC88U and would give you very good performance. It's a "HND" router so the latest architecture, and wifi 5 ("AC") is still very viable for the next few years. The upgrade pick is AX86U (wifi 6), with double the ram and a quad core CPU, if you like running scripts...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Just FYI, ntpMerlin + chrony is working for me on beta2 (on AC86) . I did have it set up prior to moving to 386 but so far so good. @maghuro, what have you got running for your prompts? Is that "oh my zsh"? Very nice! You could try pt.pool.ntp.org (see https://www.ntppool.org/zone/europe) and...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Installed and everything seems to be working great! One tiny complaint, I had some configuration already in cake-qos.conf.add and it got overwritten. I knew what was in there so no big deal, but it might be nice to save a backup just in case someone had more extensive changes?

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

OpenWRT uses the name Smart Queue Management (SQM) for quality of service settings. Their default queuing discipline is "cake" :) ref: https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/traffic-shaping/sqm-details So for Merlin, set cake using the defaults (95% of speedtest results) and you should...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

Hi Dave, a while ago on the beta thread you posted some tips on configuring stock Merlin cake, including this: I use Zoom and Teams for work, and only have 6 Mbps upload, so like the idea of prioritizing them. Would this approach still work for CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0? That is, would adding a...

    CakeQOS CakeQoS-Merlin v2.0.0 alpha

It looks very nice! (FlexCake!) One question: does this replace the now built-in cake? Or is more like a way to configure the built-in cake with more options? On previous cake threads I saw a good amount of discussion around adjusting rtt values, and indeed, I have been fiddling with...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2 Beta is now available

I did a dirty upgrade from 384.19 at the beginning of the week, and switched to cake from FlexQoS (sorry Dave! ;)). Everything running smooth! RT-AC86U, without QoS speeds are 85/6 over docsis/cable. Cake config is 82.5/5.5 which gets me an A+ quality and A bufferbloat. Since it's almost a...

    ntpMerlin ntpMerlin v3.x

Hi all, I just set up ntpMerlin a few days ago, and am seeing an oddly cyclical pattern to Drift. Any idea what might be going on here? I think the numbers are probably just fine (~300 nanoseconds Offset and ~300 parts per billion Drift!) but it is strange. For some reason it drifts low every...

pixelserv Enabling SSL for WebUI - Stuck (sorry!)

What kind of client do you have? I found I needed different instructions on Linux for example, and yes Firefox is tricky (I think newer versions require different steps). If you can access https://<pixelserv ip>/servstats from the client with no issues, your pixelserv and client certs are...
