QNAP Unveils QBoat Sunny, a Single-Board IoT Mini Server for IoT Developers

I believe this is the same one they use in their NAS, so with this one is able to get the QTS experience without the NAS hardware. Not bad for $169.

Broadcom Announces Bid for Qualcomm Takeover

Bad idea for a number of reason and not just to US customers. Plus there's the NDA culture that Qualcomm is known for which will affect the right-to-repair movement and the Maker market as well.

Canary Moves Nearly All Free Features Behind Paywall

Maybe with backlash, this will be a self-correcting problem? Not just this company, but any that promise something and then take it back. Basically dealing in bad faith.

    Synology DS1817 DiskStation Reviewed

Can't wait for SSDs to economically reach HDD capacities. Would cut the size of that box down by at least half. Quieter and cooler to boot.

QNAP TS-453B Quad-Core Multimedia NAS Reviewed

I can certainly see why hardware is the focus. If the foundation of a NAS isn't any good, it doesn't matter what is layered on top. All of it would suffer. As for the rest NAS as a product is still mostly for the skilled. It will take a bit more work before it will have the needed ease of use...

ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 Wireless-AC5300 Tri-Band Gaming Router Reviewed

I could see it being handy for those who put their entire Steam library on their NAS.

CUJO Smart Internet Firewall - Second Look

Kind of like those whitelist DNS sites. With that being said, a bigger issue for those getting into the security field is liability, as in what happens if their security fails to secure.

Comcast Takes Larger Stake in Plume.

Is the WiFi mesh market really that big of a thing over plain WiFi?

QNAP Announces First Ryzen-Powered NAS Series

Understood, although when I mention a UPS, it's not for running the NAS the longest, but long enough to effect an orderly shut-down. For that one doesn't need a big UPS. In fact it could be sized as big as a drive bay, and removable. The problem is that without a UPS power blips risk corrupting...

QNAP Announces First Ryzen-Powered NAS Series

You know the most interesting omission with NAS in general, and this specifically? No UPS. Even a small one could be built-in.

    Smart Homes In The Cloud

If there's a gold standard, it's the one from fiction via Iron Man's Jarvis. We are slowly inching that way, but a lot of the seams are still showing, reflecting the immaturity of the whole endeavor.

Will Wi-Fi Make 5G LTE Irrelevant?

Good article. One does get the impression that all of it is "throwing at the wall, and see what sticks"? Not the most efficient way to building a nationwide "last mile".

    Synology Announces Its Second Router

Probably because Synology is a device[+] type of company were their NASs are more than just storage devices. They may be trying the same with their routers.

ZyXEL GS1200-8HP 8-Port Web Managed PoE Gigabit Switch Reviewed

Wonder just how different this is to their GS1900-8HP model? Bet both even has the same limitations.

QNAP’s New NAS - Storage Expansion, Container Support, and 10 GbE

I wonder has containers gotten to the "app store" level of ease-of-use and convenience? Usually some command-line level of guru is needed.
